Spark R&D makes the most refined splitboard bindings available for riders who want performance-first gear without the interface compromises of older touring systems. Built in Bozeman, Montana by people who tour extensively, Spark bindings are the choice of the global splitboard community for their strength, precision and the natural riding feel they deliver on the descent. Twelve Board Store is an authorised Australian Spark R&D dealer — we carry the range at our Richmond showroom and ship free Australia-wide.

Why Spark R&D
Spark R&D entered the splitboard binding market with a clear goal: build a binding that performs as well on the descent as a regular resort binding, while being fast and reliable to transition on the skin track. The result is a system trusted by guides, backcountry instructors and serious touring riders around the world — including in Australia's Bogong High Plains and Kosciuszko Main Range, where the variable snowpack demands gear that works in every condition.
The Spark touring interface uses a heel riser and toe piece that snap in and out reliably in cold, icy conditions — a critical detail when you're transitioning in exposed terrain with gloves on. The binding itself sits close to the board and transmits power efficiently on the descent without the dead spots that older puck systems can introduce.
The Spark R&D Range
- Spark Surge — Spark's all-mountain touring binding. Medium-stiff flex, full-featured touring hardware, the right choice for riders building their first dedicated touring setup or wanting one binding that handles all Australian backcountry terrain.
- Spark Arc — Spark's premium freeride touring binding. Stiffer flex, more direct power transfer on the descent, lighter construction for longer tours. For experienced backcountry riders who want maximum performance in both modes.
- Spark Blaze — Spark's women's specific touring binding. Tuned flex and geometry for women's riding styles and boot sizes. Same performance intent as the Surge in a women's specific package.
Spark R&D Compatibility
Spark bindings use a standard puck interface compatible with most splitboard hole patterns. Before buying, confirm your splitboard's mounting interface is compatible with Spark's system. We check compatibility for every setup we sell — bring your board in or tell us the make and model and we'll confirm before you order.
Spark R&D FAQ
Are Spark bindings compatible with my splitboard? Spark uses a standard puck interface that suits most splitboards. Karakoram-specific boards require different hardware. Come in or contact us and we'll check compatibility.
How do Spark bindings compare to Karakoram? Spark uses a traditional puck interface — broadly compatible, proven and reliable. Karakoram uses a proprietary clip-in system that transitions faster but requires Karakoram-specific board hardware. Both are excellent; the choice depends on your board and how much you value transition speed vs compatibility breadth.
Do I need to buy skins separately? Yes — climbing skins are sold separately from bindings. We stock skins to match your splitboard width. Come in and we'll build a complete kit.
What safety gear do I need for splitboarding? Every person in the group needs a beacon, probe and shovel — no exceptions. See our backcountry safety collection.
