Frequently Asked Questions

15K is the sensible minimum for Australian snow, which is wetter and heavier than most gear is designed around. Go to 20K or GORE-TEX if you ride regularly or spend time off-piste. A 10K jacket is fine for dry bluebird groomers but wets out in sustained wet snow.

For most Australian riders, a shell with a good mid layer. A shell has no built-in insulation so you control warmth by layering, which suits our variable spring conditions. An insulated jacket is warmer on cold days but limits how much you can adapt as the day warms up.

Long enough to cover your lower back when you are bent forward with your arms up, and tried on over a mid layer rather than just a t-shirt. Baggy fits allow more layering and freedom of movement, fitted cuts are lighter and cleaner. Neither is correct, it comes down to how you like to ride.

A helmet-compatible hood, pit zips to dump heat on warm days, a powder skirt that seals when you fall, a chest pocket for phone and pass, and an internal pocket for goggles. A hood that will not fit over a helmet is useless in the weather you would want a hood for.

An elasticated internal skirt that seals around your waist so snow cannot push up inside the jacket when you fall. It matters most on deep days and slushy spring snow.

Burton including the GORE-TEX AK line, L1 for technical performance at a sharper price, Airblaster for personality alongside function, and Yuki Threads which is Australian-designed for local conditions. We are an authorised dealer across every brand.
