An avalanche beacon is the first and most important piece of safety equipment any backcountry snowboarder carries. In an avalanche burial, the window for survival is narrow — most victims survive if recovered within 15 minutes. A beacon lets your partners find you. Without one, they are searching blind.
Every person in a backcountry group needs a beacon. Not some of them. Every one of them. This is not negotiable.
We carry avalanche beacons from BCA, Mammut, Pieps and Black Diamond. Look for a triple-antenna digital beacon with a search distance of at least 40 metres and a clear, intuitive interface. The BCA Tracker range is widely used for its straightforward search mode — critical under stress. Owning a beacon without practicing with it is not enough. Run search drills before every season. We can walk you through beacon use in store.
