Waterproofing is the first spec to nail. 10,000mm is the baseline for regular Australian riding — it handles the typical mix of groomers, lifts and occasional sitting in slush. If you're riding through full rain days, spending time in the terrain park where you're in contact with snow more often, or doing full days in heavy dump conditions, you want 15,000–20,000mm. Premium membranes like Gore-Tex sit at the top of the range for maximum performance.

Breathability works alongside waterproofing. On a warm Australian spring day, a jacket without proper breathability traps heat and you end up sweating through it from the inside. Look for the breathability rating — expressed as grams of moisture vapour transmission per square metre per 24 hours — alongside the waterproofing number. Higher output riders need higher breathability.

Fit matters for riding. A baggy, relaxed fit — the L1 and Airblaster signature — gives freedom of movement and room for layering.
