Wider noses, setback stances, taper from nose to tail and rocker profiles that keep the tip above the surface in soft snow. These boards are not all-mountain compromises. They are specialist tools for specific terrain.

In Australia, a dedicated backcountry or powder board earns its keep on the deep days at Mt Hotham, Falls Creek and Mt Buller — the morning after a significant snowfall when the off-piste is untracked — and in the Australian backcountry terrain accessible by splitboard or touring. Burton step on bindings
