What is an old school skateboard?

Old school skateboards use the wider, shaped decks from skating's earlier eras rather than the symmetrical popsicle shape of modern street boards. They typically run wider (8.5 inch and up), with a distinctive wide nose, a steep kicktail and often an asymmetric shape built for pool, ramp and cruising rather than technical flip tricks. Think the shapes ridden in the Bones Brigade era, reissued and updated with modern construction.

Who are old school boards for?

Three kinds of rider: those who skated these shapes originally and want that feel back, riders who love pool, bowl and transition where the wide stable platform shines, and anyone who wants a fun, characterful cruiser that stands out from a standard setup. They are not built for technical street skating, so if you want to learn flip tricks, a modern popsicle deck is the better call.

How do you set up an old school board?

Old school shapes are wide, so they run wider trucks (usually 149 to 169 depending on deck width) and often larger, softer wheels (56mm and up, in the 78a to 92a range) for a smooth pool and cruising ride. Many come as completes set up correctly out of the box; if you are building one, we can match the right trucks and wheels to the deck.
