What is in a tuning kit?

A good kit covers three basics: edge sharpening, waxing and base care. What you actually need depends on how much of your own maintenance you want to take on.

Why do edge tools matter in Australia?

Edge sharpness is what holds you on the firm, icy morning snow that is normal at Australian resorts. An edge tool or file with a guide lets you maintain the bevel and clean up burrs after riding rails or clipping a rock, which happens more often than anyone admits on a thin early-season cover.

What do you need for waxing?

What does base care involve?

A base cleaner, plus a P-Tex repair option for the inevitable core shots. Keeping the base sealed stops the oxidation that slowly makes a board feel dead underfoot, which happens gradually enough that most people never notice until they ride a freshly tuned board.

Starter kit or full kit?

A starter kit with the essentials suits most riders doing their own basic upkeep. Serious riders, and anyone tuning more than one board, will want a fuller kit with a proper vice and dedicated tools.
