Fat boy from 12 Boards

I absolutely love the bike and use it nearly everyday.
I’m 67 years old but it’s a bit like going back to having dirt bikes in the mid seventies! Also 12 boards was easy to deal with. A great shop.

Adding another to my collection, best layer for 1st or 2nd layer.

Seriously Underrated

These bindings are seriously Underrated, and Bent Metal are now gonna be my go-to bindings for the next few seasons.

I've been riding for 3 decades, and most recently have had Burton Vita's and Cartels, Now's, Joneses, Union Ultras, Nitro Phantoms and Team Pros, Rome Katanas and other stuff I have lost track of.

These Bent Metals have the response and support of a stiffer binding, the dampening to rival my Nitro Phantoms (with that fancy air injected foam and airbag in the heel) and yet are better straps and dampening WITH control, than my Union Ultras - which now, I will be selling.

And they also allow me to move around on board, for when I want to get surfy carvy.

They were not wrong when they said you get dampening AND underfoot feel - with most bindings, you lose one as you gain the other.

You also get the mini disc for microscopic, millimetre perfect stance adjustment.

The straps are super comfy and conform nicely around my boot, crating no pressure points, and the dampening allows my clapped out feet to ride for just that little bit longer, compared to the rest of my binding quiver.

For anyone thinking of these as an outlier potential options to your standard Union Forces or Rome Katanas or Burton Cartels - these are better in many, many ways.

Take the risk, and get yourself a pair!

Great service from twelve board store, lots of communication and superfast delivery, first bracket board Iv had and i love it, nice and stable but with good turning, dad bod wheels are smooth and roll over anything and the blue wheels match nicely to the board for a neat looking outfit, very happy with the loaded board!

Exactly what i orderes

Awesome fit!

This helmet is AWESOME! The perfect fit, easy clasp, and fab colour have made my daily bike commute safe and more fun! There’s a risk buying equipment online however this has exceeded my hopes, PLUS the handy hole for sliding it onto the lock is a great design feature I didn’t;t know I needed. Wishing I had brought the magnetic light to go with it. Would def buy again.

Spark R&D Surge ST Pro Splitboard Binding | Black | 2026

The Lightest. The Strongest. No Compromises on the Skin Track.

The Surge ST Pro is Spark R&D's flagship performance splitboard binding — the same fundamental platform as the standard Surge ST, but built with premium materials at every single touch point to produce the lightest, stiffest, and most responsive version of the design. At 610g per binding (1,220g per pair in Medium), it's a genuinely lightweight setup for a binding with this level of response and structural integrity. The Surge is Spark's stiffer, more aggressive binding — preferred by bigger riders, more aggressive chargers, and anyone who prioritises maximum drive and edge response on steep, consequential terrain. The Pro takes that already capable foundation and removes weight wherever physics allows without sacrificing the structural integrity you need when it matters most. Made in Bozeman, Montana, USA — every component built in-house with the exception of a handful of screws and the buckles.

The Pro upgrade is not cosmetic. Three distinct material improvements separate the Surge ST Pro from the standard Surge ST. First: the highbacks are carbon-reinforced nylon rather than glass-reinforced — the carbon ratio is specifically tuned for a stiff ride and maximum response, and injection moulding the carbon nylon allows for more complex geometry and better impact strength than traditional carbon construction methods. Second: the Pillow Line straps, ladders, and adjusters are made from full Pebax® plastics — the same premium material used in high-end ski boots. Pebax® maintains consistent stiffness in cold temperatures (standard materials can stiffen unpredictably as the mercury drops), is 20% lighter, and is more durable over repeated flex cycles. Third: all mounting hardware has been upgraded to custom 7075-T6 aluminium — 65% lighter than the stainless steel used in the standard binding — with hollow stainless pivot pins that are 33% lighter than solid pins. These upgrades are cumulative weight savings that add up to a measurably lighter binding without any reduction in structural performance.

The Tesla T1 system underneath is what makes Spark bindings fundamentally different to traditional splitboard setups. In tour mode, the binding slides sideways into the ST touring bracket and locks with the Tesla Snap Ramp — no pins to fiddle with, no cables to manage, no tools required. Snap the ramp up, slide the binding out, rotate it for ride mode, slide it back in, snap the ramp down. Fast, repeatable, and reliable in any conditions. The ST Whammy Bar climbing wire is built directly into the baseplate — a single climbing wire with positions at 12° and 18°, adjusted via a side-arm lever while on the slope. The ST Tech overmoulding on touring brackets and whammy bars injects a proprietary thermoplastic blend over the aluminium components, eliminating friction, increasing durability, and making climbing wire position changes smooth and effortless even with gloves on — the brackets last four times longer than the previous brass-bushing version. The Rip 'N' Flip highbacks are individual left and right for natural ergonomics, with a tool-free forward lean adjuster (FLAD) that toggles between -13° (touring position) and your chosen ride position, up to +22°. Integrated Ibex crampon mounting claws on the ST brackets make adding the Ibex ST crampons a simple, tool-free snap.

Binding Size Guide
Spark R&D uses unisex sizing based on boot length and bulk — not men's or women's specific. When in doubt, consider going up a size with bulkier or stiffer-soled boots.

Size US Men's Boot US Women's Boot EU Mondo
XS <7.0 <8.0 <39 <24.5
S 7.0 – 8.5 8.0 – 9.5 39 – 41 24.5 – 26.0
M 8.5 – 10.5 9.5 – 11.5 41 – 43 26.0 – 27.5
L 10.5+ 11.5+ 43+ 27.5+

Note: Boot bulk matters as much as boot size for Spark sizing. A bulkier snowboard boot at US 10 may fit better in a Large than a Medium. If you're between sizes or unsure, call us on 03 9421 2293 and we'll help you work it out.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm new to splitboarding — what else do I need to buy beyond these bindings?
The Surge ST Pro bindings come with ST Brackets, T1 Heel Rests, aluminium mounting screws, and Spark's Pocket Tool. What they don't include — and what you'll need separately — is a set of pucks to mount the bindings to your splitboard in ride mode. Spark offers Flat Pucks (neutral stance angle) and Canted Pucks (angled for more natural ankle alignment); canted pucks are the more popular choice as they reduce knee and ankle fatigue over long days. Both are sold separately. You'll also want Ibex ST Crampons for any serious skin track — they snap onto the integrated mounting claws on the ST brackets and are essential on firm or icy approaches. Your splitboard will also need split-specific inserts and interface hardware if it doesn't already have them. Call us on 03 9421 2293 and we can walk through exactly what you need for your specific board.

How does the Tesla T1 system work — and how does it compare to other splitboard binding systems?
The Tesla T1 is Spark's proprietary tour-to-ride transition system. In tour mode, the binding slides sideways into the offset ST touring bracket and locks into place with the Tesla Snap Ramp. No pins to thread, no cables to pull, no tools required. To transition to ride mode, you snap the ramp up, slide the binding out, rotate it 90°, slide it back into the puck channel, and snap the ramp down. Once dialled in, most riders get their transitions under two minutes — and the system works reliably in the kind of wet, cold, snow-covered conditions that make fiddly systems genuinely frustrating. Compared to pin-based systems (like Spark's own Blaze or Burner bindings), the T1 is faster and less prone to icing up because there are no small pins or cables to freeze. The main alternative is Burton's Channel-based system, which requires a different interface. The T1 works with all puck-compatible splitboards from any brand.

What's the actual difference between the Surge ST Pro and the standard Surge ST — is the Pro worth the extra cost?
Both bindings use the same baseplate geometry, the same T1 system, the same ST Tech touring brackets, and the same Rip 'N' Flip highback shape. The Pro upgrades every material that can be upgraded: carbon-reinforced nylon highbacks instead of glass-reinforced (stiffer, lighter, more responsive), full Pebax® straps, ladders, and adjusters instead of standard thermoplastic (20% lighter, cold-stable, more consistent flex), 7075 aluminium hardware throughout instead of stainless steel (65% lighter per fastener), and hollow pivot pins instead of solid. The weight saving per pair in Medium is meaningful on long skin approaches, and the Pebax® strap performance in cold temperatures is genuinely better — standard materials can stiffen unpredictably in sub-zero conditions while Pebax® stays consistent. If you're doing serious backcountry missions with long approaches and steep terrain, the Pro is worth the investment. If you're weekend touring on shorter objectives, the standard Surge ST is an excellent binding at a lower price point. Call us on 03 9421 2293 and we'll give you an honest recommendation based on how you actually ride.

Is the Surge ST Pro right for me, or should I look at the Arc ST Pro?
The Surge and Arc are Spark's two core splitboard binding families, and the choice comes down primarily to riding style and terrain. The Surge is Spark's stiffer, more supportive binding — wider ankle straps, stiffer highbacks, solid baseplates. It's preferred by bigger riders, more aggressive chargers, and anyone prioritising maximum edge drive and control in steep, consequential terrain. The Arc is lighter with more baseplate cutouts and a slightly softer, more surfy highback — it suits riders who favour agility and board feel on longer tours and less committing terrain. If you like to charge hard, ride steep, and want the binding to keep up with aggressive edge engagement, the Surge ST Pro is your binding. If you favour longer, more contemplative tours with an emphasis on feel and lightness over stiffness, the Arc ST Pro is worth considering. Come into the store at 435A Bridge Rd Richmond or call 03 9421 2293 and we'll match you to the right setup.

About Spark R&D
Spark R&D was founded in 2006 in Bozeman, Montana — at the base of the Bridger Mountains, with a direct view of the terrain that informs every design decision they make. They make every component of their bindings in-house at their Bozeman shop, with the exception of a handful of screws and the buckles. That level of control over manufacturing is rare in the binding industry and is why Spark's designs iterate precisely and reliably: when they identify a problem, they fix it themselves. Two decades of focused innovation on splitboard bindings — and nothing else — has made Spark the benchmark against which every other splitboard binding system is measured.
