About Globe
Globe is a Melbourne skate brand through and through. Brothers Peter, Stephen and Matt Hill grew up skating in Melbourne, and in 1985 they started importing skateboards out of Fitzroy, a business that became Hardcore Enterprises. The Globe brand itself was born in 1994, starting with skate shoes. The company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange in 2001, moved into its Port Melbourne headquarters, and launched its own line of skateboards, cruisers and longboards in 2010.
Today Globe is still led by the Hill family, with Matt Hill as CEO, and still based in Port Melbourne. Its cruisers and longboards are known for epoxy-pressed maple decks, soft Globe cruiser wheels and bold, art-led graphics. The same cruiser wheels that come on Globe completes are sold separately, so you can freshen up or soften up any setup.
FAQs
What are Globe Retro Flex wheels best for?
Cruising and carving. The wide 45mm riding surface and sticky 83a urethane hold turns and carve smoothly, with a retro look that suits old-school and surf-style boards.
What does 83a mean?
83a is a medium-soft cruiser hardness on the A scale. It's smooth over cracks and rough footpaths but a little firmer and livelier than a 78a wheel, so it still feels responsive for carving and the odd trick.
Will 58mm wheels fit my board / do I need risers?
On cruisers and boards with wheel wells, usually no. On a standard popsicle deck, use a 1/8" riser at 58mm, especially with loose trucks. The wide face also needs a little room either side of the truck.
Do they come with bearings?
No, they're sold as a set of 4 wheels without bearings. You'll need 8 standard 608 skate bearings (2 per wheel), which fit every standard skateboard wheel.
