The Independent story

Founded in 1978 in Santa Cruz, Independent Truck Company quickly became the trucks pros rode and everyone else aspired to. Decades of refinement have produced trucks renowned for turn, stability, grind and sheer durability, and the current Stage 11 geometry is the benchmark. Independent has the deepest pro team in the business and a genuine ride-till-they-die reputation. For a huge number of skaters, Indys are the only trucks they will run.

What size Independent trucks do you need?

Match the truck width to your deck width, so the axle roughly matches the deck and the wheels sit flush with the edges. Independent's sizing runs 129, 139, 144, 149, 159 and 169, each mapping to a deck width range. As a rough guide an 8.0 inch deck takes a 139, 8.25 to 8.5 takes a 149, and 8.5 and up takes a 159. Tell us your deck and we will match it, or we sort it when you build a custom complete.

Standard, Hollow or Forged Hollow?

Independent offers three builds at most sizes. Standard trucks are the classic, tough and reliable. Hollow trucks use a hollow kingpin and axle to shave weight without losing much strength, good if you want a lighter setup for flip tricks. Forged Hollow is the lightest, with a forged baseplate and hollow hardware, for riders chasing minimum weight. All share the same proven Stage 11 geometry, so they turn and grind the same, the difference is weight and price.

Why do skaters trust Independent so much?

Durability and consistency. Indys take years of grinding and hard impacts and keep working, the turn is smooth and predictable, and they grind better as they wear in rather than falling apart. Genuine Indy bushings and cushions use high-rebound urethane for responsive carving with a short break-in. When people say Built to Grind, it is because these trucks genuinely outlast most of the boards they are mounted on.
