snowboarding

Burton didn't just make snowboards — it built the sport. From a barn in Vermont in 1977 to the biggest name in snowboarding, Burton has shaped how the world rides for nearly five decades. At Twelve Board Store we carry the deepest Burton range in Melbourne: snowboards, boots, bindings, the Step On system, AK outerwear, and bags — all in stock at our Richmond showroom, authorised dealer, shipping free Australia-wide.
The Burton Story
Jake Burton Carpenter founded Burton Snowboards in 1977, working out of a barn in Londonderry, Vermont, building boards by hand and convincing ski resorts to even allow this new sport on their slopes. More than any other person, Jake is the reason snowboarding exists as it does today — he spent decades fighting to get boards on mountains, riders into competition, and snowboarding into the Olympics. Burton has been at the centre of the sport ever since, sponsoring the riders and shaping the technology that defines modern snowboarding.
That heritage matters because it shows up in the product. Burton builds the most complete ecosystem in snowboarding — boards, boots, bindings and outerwear all engineered to work together — and backs it with R&D no other brand can match.
Who Burton Is For
Burton makes gear for every rider, which is exactly why it's the brand most people start with and many never leave. Beginners get forgiving, confidence-building boards and the easiest setup experience in the sport. Intermediates get the broadest range of all-mountain and freestyle options anywhere. Advanced riders get the Family Tree line and AK outerwear built for serious backcountry and big-mountain riding. Whatever you ride and wherever you're at, there's a Burton built for it — and we'll help you find the right one rather than just the most expensive.

Burton FAQ
Is Burton good for beginners? Yes — Burton makes some of the best beginner and progression boards in the sport, with forgiving flex and easy setup. It's one of the safest first-board brands, and the range scales all the way up to expert.
What is the Burton Channel? The Channel is Burton's mounting system — a single rail on the board that allows a huge range of stance width and angle adjustment. It works with most major bindings using Burton's included hardware.
What is Burton Step On? A step-in boot and binding system — you click into the binding at three points and ride, with no straps to do up. Fast, secure, and a favourite for riders who hate strapping in. Try it in store.
How do I size a Burton board? Sizing depends on weight, height and riding style. Use our snowboard size guide, or come in and we'll dial it in.
