Purpose-built snow tool sleeves keep your shovel and probe ready, a large fleece-lined goggle pocket and deployable helmet carry stow essentials on the go, and the hydration sleeve doubles as laptop storage off the mountain. Carry your board vertically, or horizontally if you prefer, and skis or a splitboard diagonally or A-frame. Back panel access, a quick-dry padded mesh back panel and a 38mm hip belt round it out.

About Dakine

Dakine started on Maui's North Shore in 1979, when surfer Rob Kaplan began making surf leashes in Haiku. In 1986 the brand moved to Hood River, Oregon, at the foot of Mt Hood, and the snow side took off from there. Dakine is also the crew behind the original Heli Pack, launched in 1996 as a low-volume pack for backcountry riders and skiers.

Will the Women's Heli Pro 20L carry my snowboard?
Yes. It has vertical snowboard carry with a horizontal option, plus diagonal or A-frame carry for skis or a splitboard. Board straps keep it tight to the pack for hiking.

Is it avalanche-tool ready?
Yes. Purpose-built snow tool sleeves keep a shovel and probe separate from your layers and quick to grab. The tools aren't included. Recommended for any trip beyond the ropes: do an avalanche safety course and always carry a transceiver, shovel and probe, and know how to use them.

Does it fit a laptop or hydration bladder?
Yes. The hydration sleeve takes an insulated reservoir on the hill and doubles as laptop storage off the mountain. A reservoir isn't included.

Should I get the Heli Pro 20L or 24L?
The 20L is the compact option for resort days and short slackcountry hikes. The 24L adds a little room for skins, a puffer and lunch on longer days. Both share the same carry and avalanche tool features.
