About Dakine

Dakine started on Maui's North Shore in 1979, when surfer Rob Kaplan began making surf leashes in Haiku. In 1986 the brand moved to Hood River, Oregon, at the foot of Mt Hood, and the snow side took off from there. Dakine is also the crew behind the original Heli Pack, launched in 1996 as a low-volume pack for backcountry riders and skiers.

FAQs

Will the Mission 25L carry my snowboard?
Yes. It has vertical snowboard carry, so your board straps flat to your back for hiking. It doesn't list ski carry, so skiers should look at the Mission Pro or Heli Pro.

Does it fit a laptop or hydration bladder?
Yes, one or the other. The hydration/laptop sleeve fits most 15" laptops, or a hydration reservoir on the hill. A reservoir isn't included.

Is it avalanche-tool ready?
It has a snow tool pocket and organiser to keep a shovel and probe separate from the rest of your gear. Tools aren't included. Recommended for any trip beyond the ropes: do an avalanche safety course and always carry a transceiver, shovel and probe, and know how to use them.

What's the difference between the Mission and Mission Pro?
The Mission is the all-rounder with a laptop sleeve, stowable belt and vertical board carry. The Mission Pro adds a clamshell backcountry layout, diagonal ski/splitboard carry, a padded hip belt and an insulated hydration sleeve in the strap.

How do I clean it?
Empty it, then spot clean with mild soap, cold water and a soft brush. Let it air dry fully before storing. Don't machine wash.
