Santa Cruz Dead Shark Cruiser Skateboard | 8.81"
Surf-inspired shape, soft wheels, classic Santa Cruz attitude.
The Santa Cruz Dead Shark is a compact, surf-inspired cruiser for rolling around town, carving and kicking through the neighbourhood. At 8.81" wide it feels as stable as a regular skateboard underfoot, but the shaped deck and soft wheels make it a smooth, easy cruiser. It suits teens and adults wanting a fun, grab-and-go board with a bold graphic.
The 7-ply deck has a Shark cruiser outline with a 5" kicktail and Dead Shark artwork on the bottom, with bloody spray grit on top. Krux 8.0 trucks and OJ Super Juice 55mm 78a wheels give a smooth, grippy roll over rough surfaces, with ABEC 3 bearings.

About Santa Cruz Skateboards
Santa Cruz Skateboards was born in 1973, when surfer friends Richard Novak, Doug Haut and Jay Shuirman, the N, H and S behind parent company NHS, Inc., were running a surfboard business in Santa Cruz, California. A challenge to build 500 skateboards from leftover fibreglass sold out fast, and the demand that followed launched the brand. In 1978 artist Jim Phillips designed the famous Santa Cruz dot logo, and in 1985 he drew the Screaming Hand, still one of the most recognised graphics in skateboarding.
More than 50 years on, Santa Cruz is widely called the oldest continuous skateboard company in the world, and NHS also looks after brands like Independent Trucks, OJ Wheels and Creature. Santa Cruz is known for iconic artwork, a legendary team and boards that are built to be skated hard. Its Shark cruisers bring that heritage to soft wheels and surf-inspired shapes.
FAQs
What is the Santa Cruz Dead Shark best for?
Cruising and carving around town. The compact shaped deck and kicktail make it quick and fun to turn, and the soft 55mm 78a wheels roll smoothly over footpaths and rough streets. It's a cruiser first, not a dedicated trick or skatepark board.
Is a 27.69" cruiser the right size for me?
For most teens and adults who want something compact, yes. It's short at 27.69", but the 8.81" width gives a stable, comfortable stance, closer to a regular skateboard than a narrow mini cruiser. If you want more room and stability for longer rides, look at a 30" to 33" cruiser.
Is the Dead Shark good for beginners?
Yes. The wide deck is easy to balance on and the soft wheels are forgiving over cracks and pebbles. The short wheelbase makes it quick to turn, so take it easy on hills until you're comfortable.
Cruiser vs skateboard: what's the difference?
A cruiser runs bigger, softer wheels and a shaped deck made for getting around, while a standard skateboard uses small, hard wheels on a symmetrical popsicle deck built for tricks and skateparks. The Dead Shark is about as wide as a street deck, but its surf-inspired shape and 78a wheels make it far smoother and grippier on rough footpaths.
Can I commute on the Dead Shark?
Yes, for short trips to the shops, school or the tram stop. It's light and easy to carry, and the soft wheels handle rough footpaths. The 55mm wheels are on the smaller side for a cruiser, so for longer or bumpier commutes a board with 60mm-plus wheels will roll further and smoother.
Does it come ready to ride?
Yes. It arrives fully assembled with griptape, trucks, wheels and bearings installed. Just check the truck tightness suits you and go ride.
