Which Snowboard Bag Do You Need?
The right bag comes down to how you travel. There are three broad types, and they suit very different trips.
-
Sleeves (basic board bags): a padded sleeve for one board. Ideal for driving to the resort and protecting your board in the car, ute tray or roof box, and for storage at home or in the off-season. Light, simple, affordable. Not built for airline travel.
-
Travel bags (padded): the do-everything choice for flying. More padding, room for one or two boards plus boots, bindings and outerwear, and built to survive baggage handlers. Many riders pack all their snow gear into one travel bag to consolidate luggage and protect everything in one hit.
-
Roller bags (wheeled): the premium travel option — wheels and a pull handle make moving heavy, fully-loaded gear through airports genuinely easy. The pick for serious travellers and anyone who hates lugging a loaded bag across a terminal.
How to Choose the Right Size
Snowboard bags are sized by length in centimetres, and the bag should be a little longer than your board — generally 5–10cm longer than your board length so it fits comfortably with room for the bag's own padding. A 157cm board sits well in a 160–166cm bag. If you ride more than one board or want to share a bag with a partner, size up to a bag rated for multiple boards. Buying a bag you can grow into (or fit a second board into) is the smarter long-term call.
Packing for Air Travel
A well-packed snowboard travel bag does double duty: it protects your board and consolidates your luggage. The trick most experienced travellers use is to pad the board with your own outerwear, mid-layers and soft gear — it protects the board and bindings while meaning you check fewer bags. Detach or loosen your bindings for flying if you can, wrap the nose and tail (the most vulnerable points), and make sure edges aren't pressing against the zip. A padded travel or roller bag is worth every dollar the first time it saves your board from an airline.

Snowboard Bag FAQ
What size snowboard bag do I need? Pick a bag about 5–10cm longer than your board so it fits with the bag's own padding. A 157cm board suits a 160–166cm bag. Riding two boards? Size up to a multi-board bag.
Can I fit boots and gear in a snowboard bag? In a padded travel bag or roller bag, yes — most fit a board (or two), boots, bindings and outerwear. Sleeves are board-only. Packing your soft gear around the board also adds protection for flying.
Sleeve, travel bag or roller bag? Sleeve for driving to the resort and storage; padded travel bag for flying; roller bag for easy airport transit with a heavy load. Tell us how you travel and we'll match it.
Do I need a board bag if I'm just driving up? A padded sleeve is well worth it — it protects your base and edges in the car or roof box and keeps your board clean and safe in the off-season.
