Carver CX Skateboard Trucks | Coal
Carver's most popular surfskate truck. Quick, tight, stable.
The Carver CX truck set turns any skateboard into a surfskate, here in Coal. The CX front truck uses a reverse-kingpin design that lets the hanger pivot much further than a normal truck, so you can pump for speed and carve tight, surf-style turns. It's Carver's most popular system and suits everyone from first-timers to park riders.
Compared with the C7, the CX is lighter, snappier and more stable at speed, with a tighter, more modern turn that feels closer to a thruster surfboard. The set pairs the CX front with Carver's C2 rear truck, and comes with risers and mounting screws, so it's ready to bolt onto a deck.
Key Features
- CX reverse-kingpin front: deep pivot for pumping and tight carves
- Stable at speed: snappier and more predictable than the C7
- C2 rear truck: matched to the CX for a balanced ride

What Size Board Does It Fit?
Carver's CX and C7 truck sets both have a 9" axle. Surfskate trucks usually sit a little narrower than the deck, and Carver runs these on its own completes with decks around 9.75"–10" wide, so as a general guide they suit boards around 9.5" to 10.5" wide.
| Truck set | Axle width | Best board width |
|---|---|---|
| CX front + C2 rear | 9" | About 9.5"–10.5" |
| C7 front + C2 rear | 9" | About 9.5"–10.5" |
Board range is general guidance. Carver's own surfskate completes run these trucks on decks around 9.75"–10" wide.
About Carver Skateboards
Carver Skateboards was founded in 1996 in Venice, California, by surfers Neil Stratton and Greg Falk. They wanted a board that felt like surfing on land, so they built the C7: a front truck on a pivoting swing arm that lets the board pump and carve like a surfboard on a wave. That truck started the surfskate category, and Carver calls it the original surfskate.
Around 2005 Carver added the CX, a lighter, snappier reverse-kingpin truck that became its most popular system. Three decades on, Carver still designs out of Culver City, California, and surfers around the world use Carvers to train between sessions. Plenty of skaters ride them simply because carving a Carver is that much fun.
FAQs
What size board do the Carver CX trucks fit?
Carver's CX set has a 9" axle, which suits surfskate decks about 9.5" to 10.5" wide. Carver's own completes run it on decks around 9.75"–10". Match the truck to your deck so the wheels sit close to the rails.
CX or C7: which Carver truck should I get?
CX is faster, tighter and more stable, and feels natural to most first-timers and park riders. C7 has a longer, more flowing turn that feels like a single-fin or retro twin-fin surfboard, which surfers chasing a pure surf feel often prefer.
Can I put Carver trucks on any skateboard?
Yes, they bolt onto any deck with a standard hole pattern. A surfskate works best on a board with a wheelbase around 15"–17.5" and softer 60–70mm wheels, which help you pump and grip through turns.
Do I need risers with Carver CX trucks?
Risers are included and Carver recommends running them. The CX turns so far that wheels around 65–70mm can touch the deck without them, especially on boards without wheel wells. Use the riser pads and bolts supplied in the box.
Do I get both trucks?
Yes. It's a full set: one CX front truck and one C2 rear truck, enough for one board, plus risers and mounting screws. Wheels and bearings are sold separately.

Simply put, a surfskate is a skateboard for surfing the street. Surfskates use special trucks that enable riders to mimic the movements, feel, and flow of surfing. Surfskates were originally invented by surfers who wanted something to do on flat days. As time has passed, surf skating has proven to be one of the most enduring passions of skaters and surfers alike. Whether you love to skate or surf, surfskating is the closest experience you can get to gliding down and carving a wave.
