About Nitro
Nitro Snowboards was founded in 1990 by two snowboarders, Tommy Delago and Sepp Ardelt, over coffee at Vera's Café in Seattle, after developing their first line the year before. Delago, who'd been a Sims team rider and ran his own snowboard camp and school before starting Nitro, still leads product development today — much of it out of the brand's technical office in Oberammergau, Bavaria, a short walk from the lift for real-world testing. More than three decades on, Nitro remains privately owned and run by the people who started it, rather than a corporate parent.
Nitro has racked up a long list of industry firsts along the way, including one of the first mass-produced splitboards, the first women's pro-model snowboard, and asymmetric camber profiles. The brand has stayed snowboarding-only and rider-driven throughout, backing a global team of riders and local shops rather than chasing the image-driven side of the industry. Nitro has also worked with ClimatePartner to measure and offset its carbon footprint, aiming for climate-neutral production across its board and binding range.
The Nitro Snowboard Range
Nitro's line-up at Twelve Board Store spans all-mountain team boards through to a run of short, surf-inspired "Quiver" shapes built for specific snow conditions. Here's what's in the current range:
- Team Pro — Nitro's pro-caliber, stealthy upgrade on the best-selling Team board, with extra pop, control, and speed for riders pushing their skills both in and out of the contest circuit. A Directional Twin Shape blends the look of a true twin with directional versatility, while Trüe Camber delivers unrivalled snap and support.
- Team — The all-mountain powerhouse the Team Pro is built from. A Directional Twin Shape combines easy switch riding with added float in powder, backed by an ultra-lightweight Powerlite poplar core for durability and pop, and a forgiving Dual Degressive Sidecut for smooth, playful turns.
- Alternator X Hailey — Co-developed with Hailey Langland, this directional ATV board blends freestyle agility with freeride power. A stiff flex and Trüe Camber profile deliver snappy pop, stable landings, and confident edge hold — built for powerful riders who want to ride the whole mountain like their personal playground.
- Dinghy — Part of Nitro's Quiver series and a team favourite. A wider Tapered Directional shape gives it a stouter, shorter footprint that floats effortlessly through powder and low-angle tree runs while still carving confidently on groomers — a great option for bigger-footed riders too.
- Drop — A directional, versatile "fun" shape built to float in powder without giving up the forgiveness needed to progress. Cam-Out Camber (a classic camber with early, smooth transitions into tip and tail) makes it catch-free and easy to ride both off the marked trails and back on them.
- Fintwin — A short, wide, surf-inspired swallowtail shortboard — Nitro's take on a quiver-of-one. Cam-Out Camber and a Tapered Swallowtail shape deliver float and forgiveness in powder and trees, while a Mid-Wide width and Progressive Sidecut still let it rip clean turns on groomers.
- Pow — Part of Nitro's Quiver series, built with input from pro rider Tommy Delago. A Tapered Pintail shape and Flat-Out Rocker deliver serious float in the deepest stuff, with a Progressive Sidecut and 3D Surf Tech base shape for a genuinely surfy feel from powder through to hardpack.
- Squash — The popular swallowtail powder-and-groomer smasher of the Nitro range. A Tapered Swallowtail shape floats evenly through deep snow while cutting through crust, and the deeply cut swallowtail improves control and reduces rear-leg burn on longer days.
