About GNU
GNU was founded in 1987 by Mike Olson, who'd already been hand-building snowboards since 1977 through Mervin Manufacturing — the family of brands that also includes Lib Tech, Roxy Snowboards and Bent Metal. Every GNU board is still made by hand at Mervin's factory in Sequim, Washington, using a zero-hazardous-waste manufacturing process and FSC-certified wood cores, making Mervin the longest-running snowboard factory still operating in the USA.
GNU pioneered Banana Technology — the hybrid rocker-camber profile now common across the industry — along with Magne-Traction's serrated edge design for extra grip on ice and hardpack. The brand has also been a driving force in women's snowboarding since the 1980s, when GNU boards were already being ridden by women's world champions, long before most of the industry took women's-specific design seriously. That legacy carries through today in the GNU Girls collection.
The GNU Snowboard Range
We stock GNU's true twin freestyle range for women riders — both built around the brand's signature hybrid camber for a playful, forgiving ride that still holds an edge when you need it.
- Gloss — a true twin freestyle board with a friendly, more accessible size run, built for progressing riders who want a playful, forgiving deck for park laps and all-mountain fun.
- Fiction — the same true twin freestyle DNA as the Gloss, but with a longer size run reaching up to 154cm for taller or more advanced riders who want the same playful character with more board underfoot.
