About Z-Flex
Z-Flex is one of the original Dogtown-era skate brands. It was started in 1976 by Kent Sherwood, Jay Adams's stepfather, who ran a fibreglass shop and had been making boards for the Zephyr team. When Sherwood split from Zephyr he took around half the crew with him, including Jay Adams and Tony Alva, under the name EZ-Ryder, which became Z-Flex within months.
Z-Flex lays claim to the first concave-top skateboard and the Z-Smooth wheel, and it has kept that 70s California surf-skate spirit alive ever since. Every Z-Flex complete still carries a piece of the Dogtown story.
FAQs
Who is a 7.875" skateboard best for?
A 7.875" deck is a mid size. It suits older kids and young teens, and smaller adults or street skaters who want a lighter, quicker board for flip tricks. As a general guide, mids suit riders around 9 to 13. Teens and adults with bigger feet, or anyone wanting more stability, usually go 8.0" and up.
Is this a good skateboard for beginners?
Yes. It's a proper complete from a core skate brand, fully assembled with quality trucks, wheels and bearings. It's a big step up from cheap department-store boards, which use lower-quality parts that make learning harder.
What can I ride this skateboard for?
Street skating, the skatepark and learning your first tricks. The mid width keeps the board light and quick to flip, while still giving enough room to learn to push, turn and ollie.
Does it come ready to ride?
Yes. It arrives fully assembled with griptape, trucks, wheels and bearings installed. Just check the truck tightness to suit you and go skate.

Why Buy from Twelve Board Store
Twelve Board Store has been riders selling to riders since 2013. We are not a generic retail chain — we are a specialist board sports retailer built around genuine product knowledge, real rider experience and the kind of after-sales support that only comes from a team that actually uses the gear they sell.
Every brand we stock, we ride. Every recommendation we make comes from real experience — on the mountain, in the park, on the street, and on the road. When you call us, you talk to someone who has been on a snowboard at Hotham last weekend or a skateboard in the carpark this morning. That is the difference between buying from Twelve and buying from a warehouse with a website.
We offer services that no online-only retailer can match. Our in-store workshop handles snowboard waxing and tuning, boot heat moulding, electric skateboard and e-bike repairs and assembly, and warranty support handled in-house rather than shipped offshore to a call centre. If something goes wrong with your gear, we fix it. If your boots don't fit, we sort it. If you ordered the wrong size, we swap it — no questions asked.
Our showroom at 435A Bridge Road Richmond stocks the full range across snowboards, bindings, boots, skateboards, longboards, electric skateboards, e-bikes, outerwear and accessories. We offer free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $89, AfterPay and Zip for flexible payment, and fast dispatch so your gear arrives when you need it.
Over a decade in business. More than 1,000 reviews. The most trusted specialist board store in Melbourne. If you need advice before you buy, call us on 03 9421 2293, visit us in-store, or contact us online — we'll get you sorted.
