The Banana Train Surfskate Fish takes its theme from Mystery Island, the tropical ride at the end of the P.O.P pier in Venice Beach, the same place the Z-Boys called home. Its tiki-style veneers draw on traditional Pacific Island woven mat patterns. It's a 31" fish-tail surfskate for surfers training on land and anyone who loves to pump and carve.

The 9.75" wide deck is 7 plies plus 2 cosmetic veneers, finished with spray grip. Z-Flex's patented Waterborne Surfskate Adapter sits under the front truck for around 3x tighter turns than a normal skate truck, with 6.25" powder-coated Z-Flex trucks and soft 90A cushions front and rear. Soft 63mm 83A Z-Smooth wheels hold grip through pumps and let go when you want to throw the tail.

About Z-Flex

Z-Flex is one of skateboarding's original brands. It was started in 1976 by Kent Sherwood, Jay Adams's stepfather, a fibreglass craftsman who had been building boards for the Zephyr team in Dogtown, the Santa Monica and Venice Beach stretch of the California coast. When Sherwood split from Zephyr he took Jay Adams and a handful of Z-Boys with him under the name EZ-Ryder, and within six months the brand became Z-Flex.

Z-Flex lays claim to the first skateboard with a concave top and to a smoother-riding wheel that helped shape the soft wheels most riders use today. A surfskate is a skateboard with a front truck that turns far tighter than normal, so you can pump for speed and carve like you're on a wave. Z-Flex surfskates use the patented Waterborne Surfskate Adapter, a cast aluminium unit that bolts between the deck and a standard front truck and lets it swing for around 3x tighter turns than an ordinary skate truck. The rear truck sits on a 14mm riser to match the height and keeps the back end stable.

Can I commute on the Banana Train Surfskate?
For short rides only. It's built for carving rather than straight-line stability, and the 63mm wheels are smallish for rough footpaths. If you need to cover distance, a drop-through longboard is a better choice.
