Thousand Chapter MIPS Helmet | Deep Burgundy
Thousand style with MIPS and a built-in tail light.
The Chapter MIPS is Thousand's tech-loaded commuter and skate helmet, pairing a clean, minimal shell with MIPS and an integrated light. This one is in Deep Burgundy. It's made for riders who skate, cycle and e-bike around the city and want extra features without the bulk.
It's certified to the US CPSC bike standard and ASTM F1492 for skateboarding, and Thousand lists CE certification for cycling too. Inside, a MIPS layer is designed to reduce rotational forces that can reach the head in some angled impacts. Eight vents with internal channelling keep it cool, a dial dials in the fit, and the 30 lumen magnetic tail light keeps you seen.

Size Guide
Wrap a soft tape measure around your head about 2cm above your eyebrows, at the widest point. Thousand's chart is in inches; the cm figures are rounded conversions. Between sizes? Thousand recommends sizing down and using the dial to fine-tune.
| Size | Head circumference | Inches |
|---|---|---|
| S | 54–57cm | 21.25–22.5" |
| M | 57–59cm | 22.5–23.25" |
| L | 59–62cm | 23.25–24.25" |
The integrated dial tightens clockwise and loosens anticlockwise. Some or all of the interior fit pads can be removed for a roomier fit, which Thousand says doesn't affect safety.
About Thousand
Thousand was started by Gloria Hwang after a friend died in a bike accident. She hadn't been wearing a helmet herself because she didn't like any of them, so she set out to design one people actually want to wear. The name comes from the brand's mission to save 1,000 lives on wheels, a goal Thousand says it passed in 2023.
Today Thousand is known for its vintage moto-inspired Heritage helmets, the patented PopLock that lets you lock your helmet to your bike, and an accident replacement program for crashed helmets. Riders choose Thousand for helmets that look as good off the board as they protect on it.
FAQs
Can I use the Thousand Chapter MIPS for skateboarding and bike riding?
Yes. Thousand certifies the Chapter MIPS to the US CPSC bicycle standard, accepted in Australia for bike and e-bike riding, plus ASTM F1492 for skateboarding and roller skating. Thousand also lists CE certification for cycling.
What size Thousand Chapter MIPS should I get?
Measure around your head about 2cm above your eyebrows at the widest point: S fits 54–57cm, M 57–59cm and L 59–62cm. Between sizes, Thousand recommends sizing down and using the dial to snug it up.
When should I replace my helmet?
Replace it after any significant impact, even if you can't see damage. The foam liner crushes to absorb a big hit and doesn't bounce back, so it won't protect you the same way twice. Also replace it if the shell is cracked, the foam is dented or the straps and buckle are worn. Thousand also runs an accident replacement program for helmets damaged in a crash; check current terms with Thousand.
What does MIPS do in the Chapter?
MIPS is a thin, low-friction layer inside the helmet that lets the head move slightly relative to the shell in an angled impact. It's designed to reduce the rotational forces that can be transferred to the brain in some crashes.
How long does the Chapter's tail light last?
The included 30 lumen magnetic tail light runs about 1 hour on solid or 2 hours flashing. It clips on magnetically, so it's quick to pull off and recharge.

Let customers speak for us
Why Buy from Twelve Board Store
Twelve Board Store has been riders selling to riders since 2013. We are not a generic retail chain — we are a specialist board sports retailer built around genuine product knowledge, real rider experience and the kind of after-sales support that only comes from a team that actually uses the gear they sell.
Every brand we stock, we ride. Every recommendation we make comes from real experience — on the mountain, in the park, on the street, and on the road. When you call us, you talk to someone who has been on a snowboard at Hotham last weekend or a skateboard in the carpark this morning. That is the difference between buying from Twelve and buying from a warehouse with a website.
We offer services that no online-only retailer can match. Our in-store workshop handles snowboard waxing and tuning, boot heat moulding, electric skateboard and e-bike repairs and assembly, and warranty support handled in-house rather than shipped offshore to a call centre. If something goes wrong with your gear, we fix it. If your boots don't fit, we sort it. If you ordered the wrong size, we swap it — no questions asked.
Our showroom at 435A Bridge Road Richmond stocks the full range across snowboards, bindings, boots, skateboards, longboards, electric skateboards, e-bikes, outerwear and accessories. We offer free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $89, AfterPay and Zip for flexible payment, and fast dispatch so your gear arrives when you need it.
Over a decade in business. More than 1,000 reviews. The most trusted specialist board store in Melbourne. If you need advice before you buy, call us on 03 9421 2293, visit us in-store, or contact us online — we'll get you sorted.
