The Stratus is Landyachtz's full-size freestyle and dancing longboard, here in the 90s-inspired Bayside graphic from Landyachtz's in-house artists. It's a big, symmetrical platform with mellow kicktails at both ends, made for cross-steps, dance lines, freestyle tricks and relaxed cruising. It suits teens and adults who want room to move, including riders with bigger feet.

The 45.5" deck is Canadian maple with a medium, snappy flex, CNC wheel wells and a grip-free centre so your feet move freely. It's set up with Bear Gen 6 Grizzly 180mm 50° trucks and 63mm 78a Fatty Hawgs, keeping the complete light and responsive. Top mounted with a choice of wheelbases, it carves smoothly and gives you a stable floor for footwork.

About Landyachtz

Landyachtz was started in 1997 by childhood friends Tom Edstrand and Mike Perreten while they were studying at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. Their first production run was pressed in a ski racing shed at Blackcomb, near Whistler. The company then moved to North Vancouver, first into a family garage and then into shared space with Invasion Snowboards, and it was there Landyachtz developed its own Bear Trucks and Hawgs Wheels. Tom Edstrand went on to win the IGSA longboarding world championship in 2005.

Today Landyachtz is still skater owned and operated, based in the Strathcona neighbourhood of Vancouver. It designs its decks, trucks and wheels to work together as one complete, from compact Dinghy cruisers and surfskates to dancing boards and downhill freeride decks. What is the Landyachtz Stratus best for?
Longboard dancing and freestyle. The long, symmetrical deck gives you a big floor for cross-steps, and the twin kicktails make it easy to ride switch and pop freestyle tricks. It also carves and cruises nicely on smooth paths.

Is a 46" longboard the right size for me?
It suits most teens and adults, and it's the better pick for taller riders or bigger feet who want room for long dance lines. If you'd prefer something lighter and quicker to flip, or you're a smaller rider, the 40" Tony Danza is the compact option.

Is the Stratus good for beginners?
Yes. The long wheelbase and wide platform make it stable and easy to balance on, and it's a great board to learn cross-stepping. Note the centre has no grip, so if you'll mostly cruise you may want to add a strip of grip in the middle.

What's the difference between drop-through and top-mount?
On a top-mount board like the Stratus, the deck sits on top of the trucks, so you get more leverage over the turn and a lively, carvy feel. Drop-through boards mount the trucks through the deck so they ride lower, which makes pushing and foot-braking easier and feels steadier at speed. For dancing and freestyle, top-mount is the usual choice because it's more responsive and pops better off the kicktails.

Can I commute on the Stratus?
For shorter trips on decent footpaths, yes. It's stable and the 63mm 78a wheels roll smoothly, but it's long to carry and the smaller wheels feel rough surfaces more than big longboard wheels. For daily distance on rough ground, a drop-through longboard with larger wheels is easier.

Does it come ready to ride?
Yes. It arrives fully assembled with griptape, trucks, wheels and bearings installed. Just check the truck tightness suits you and go ride.
