The FR333X Street Legal is the EN15194 certified build of FlightRisk's most comfortable bike — pedal assist capped at 25km/h, legal on public roads and bike paths, no licence and no registration. Full DNM suspension front and rear, four-piston Tektro hydraulics, a 48V 25Ah Samsung battery good for up to 80km, and the FR Escape App with live 4G tracking. Everything the off-road version has, restricted at the motor so you can ride it anywhere.

FlightRisk calls this one the Easy Rider and it earns the name. The plushest suspension setup in the fleet, an upgraded comfort seat, adjustable bars, and 180kg of capacity with room for a second rider or a rear child seat. It is the one to buy if your riding is the school run, the commute, the bike path and the beach, and you want to do all of it on something that actually absorbs the road instead of transmitting it.

How Far Does It Go?

Up to 80km from the 48V 25Ah Samsung battery, one of the biggest packs in the category. You will see that number in Eco on flat ground. Melbourne commuting with hills, headwind and stop-start traffic pulls it down, and sitting in Boost pulls it down faster, but the pack is large enough that most riders doing a 20 to 30km round trip get several days between charges. Range moves with rider weight, terrain, assist level, tyre pressure, wind and temperature.

What Is a 6km/h Walk-Assist Throttle?

Most fat tyre e-bikes sold in Australia either have no throttle at all, or ship a full twist throttle with an isolator switch you are expected to flick off before riding in public. The second approach puts the compliance on you, and a rider who forgets is riding an illegal bike.

FlightRisk has done it properly. The FR333X Street Legal has a throttle, but it is capped at 6km/h — walking pace. That is the only throttle form EN15194 permits, and it exists for pushing the bike rather than riding it: up a driveway, out of a lift, across a car park, or walking it up a ramp with a kid on the back and the shopping in the basket. You get the convenience without a switch to remember and without the legal grey area.

Built for the School Run and the Beach Run

This is the comfort bike in the range and the one that makes most sense as a genuine car replacement for short trips. The 180kg capacity takes a second rider or a rear child seat. The DNM suspension front and rear means a passenger is not getting rattled over every tram track and pothole between here and school. The fat Vee Huntsman tyres float over sand and gravel rather than digging in, which is why it has become a favourite for the board-and-beach run, and the four-piston brakes mean a loaded bike still stops properly.
