We have been selling skateboards out of Richmond since 2013. Not a department store counter with boards on a rack, an actual skate shop where everyone on the floor rides and nobody works on commission.

Bridge Road is served by trams and is a short walk from Richmond's train stations. There is street parking along Bridge Road and in the surrounding streets, and it is easiest outside the middle of the day on weekends.

Weekday mornings are the quietest if you want unhurried time with someone, which is worth knowing if you are buying a first board or sorting out a kid's setup.

Custom complete builds

This is the thing worth coming in for. Pick your deck, trucks, wheels, bearings, grip and hardware and we will build it properly.

  • We grip it, which is the step most people find fiddly and which is permanent if it goes wrong.
  • We match the truck width to the deck so you are not guessing between three brands' numbering systems.
  • We set the tension and adjust the axle nuts so the wheels actually spin.
  • Bring it back any time and we will adjust it. No charge, no appointment.

Worth knowing before you commit: a custom build costs roughly double a comparable complete. That is worth it when you know exactly what you want, and not worth it for a first board. We will tell you which one you are.

How we set boards up · What it costs

Kids sizing and helmet fitting

Two things go wrong most often when parents buy online, and both take five minutes to get right in person.

Deck width. We size to the child's height and feet, not their age. The instinct to buy big so they grow into it is the single most common reason kids give up, because a wide board is heavy and will not turn for them.

Helmet fit. A helmet that rocks or tilts back does considerably less than parents assume. We fit it on the child, adjust the pad set, and show you what correct looks like.

Bring them in rather than guessing. There is no charge and it makes a real difference to whether they stick with it.

What size skateboard for a kid

What we carry in store

Street skateboards. Completes from $99, decks, and the full parts range. Anti Hero, Powell Peralta, Element, Globe, DGK, Toy Machine, Enjoi, Zero, Blind, Darkstar.

Longboards, cruisers and surf skates. A genuinely deep range, which is unusual for a shop that also does street. Landyachtz, Loaded, Arbor, DB, Globe, Z-Flex, OBFive.

Parts. Independent, Thunder and Ace trucks. Spitfire and Powell wheels. Bones, Bronson, Andale and Spitfire bearings. Mob and Jessup grip.

Protection. ProTec, TSG, 187 Killer Pads, Thousand and Impala across helmets, pads and packs.

Skate shoes. Vans, Lakai, Etnies, Globe, eS and Emerica.

If we do not have your size or colourway on the floor we will usually have it out the back or can get it in.

Why come in rather than order online?

Plenty of the time you should just order online, and we ship free Australia wide over $90. But there are four things a website genuinely cannot do.

  1. Standing on a board. Deck width and concave are preferences, and two minutes standing on three widths settles a question no chart can.
  2. Shoes. Skate shoe sizing varies a lot between brands and models. A size 10 in one is not a size 10 in another.
  3. Helmets. Fit is the whole point of a helmet and it cannot be done by measurement alone.
  4. Being told not to buy something. Nobody here works on commission. If the $99 complete is the right board for you, or if your bearings just need cleaning rather than replacing, that is what you will hear.

Visiting us FAQ

Where is your skate shop in Melbourne?

We are at 435A Bridge Road, Richmond VIC 3121, about two kilometres east of the Melbourne CBD. Open seven days: Monday to Friday 10am to 5:30pm, Saturday 10am to 5pm, and Sunday 11am to 4pm.

Can you build a custom complete skateboard in store?

Yes. Pick your deck, trucks, wheels, bearings and grip and we will build it, grip it and set the truck tension before you leave. Bring it back any time and we will adjust it for you at no charge.

Do you fit skateboards and helmets for kids?

Yes, and it is worth doing in person. We size the deck to the child's height and feet rather than their age, and fit the helmet properly. Both take five minutes and both are commonly got wrong when buying online.

Can I try a skateboard before buying it in Melbourne?

You can stand on any board in the shop and get a real sense of the width and concave, which is the part charts cannot settle. For shoes and protection, trying them on matters even more, since sizing varies a lot between brands.

Do you sell longboards and cruisers as well as skateboards?

Yes. Alongside street skateboards we carry longboards, cruisers and surf skates in store, plus the trucks, wheels and bushings for each. They ride very differently, so it helps to come in and talk about how you plan to use it.

Do you offer Afterpay or Zip in store?

Yes, we accept both Afterpay and Zip in store and online. That covers boards, protection, shoes and custom builds, so you can put a full setup together without paying for it all at once.
