Why do pants matter more than people give them credit for?

Because they spend the whole day in contact with snow. You sit on chairlifts, kneel to strap in, and if you are learning or riding park you are on the ground constantly. Boards get chosen over hours of research; pants get chosen in five minutes and then sat on all season. Getting them right matters more than the attention they usually get.

Baggy, cargo, regular or slim?

The first decision, and it is about how you ride as much as how you want to look.

• Baggy — loose, high-volume, maximum movement, the park and street default and forgiving between sizes.
• Cargo — utility pockets and a relaxed cut, storage-forward.
• Regular — the middle ground that suits most all-mountain riders.
• Slim — tailored and close-fitting for a cleaner line and touring.

Whichever you pick, size it over the base layer you actually ride in, not over jeans in the shop.

What waterproof rating do you need?

Pants sit closer to the snow than anything else you wear, so this matters more for pants than jackets. 10K is the minimum for regular Australian riding, and 15K to 20K for wet days or heavy park sessions. Our snow is wet and heavy, so do not under-spec here to save a few dollars.

Pants or bibs?

Pants are quicker on and off and are the familiar choice. Bibs extend coverage up the torso and seal snow out entirely, so they are warmer and more watertight at the cost of some convenience. If you ride powder or spend time on the ground, bibs are worth the trade.

Which brands should you look at?

We carry L1, Burton, Airblaster and Yuki Threads across the men's range, from technical bibs to relaxed street-influenced pants. L1 is a strong all-round default. Yuki Threads is Australian designed, so the sizing is built around us. Burton spans the widest range of price and spec.
