Frequently Asked Questions

Treat 10K as a minimum rather than a target. For regular Australian riding, 15K to 20K is where you want to be, because our snow is wet, heavy and variable and saturates gear faster than dry powder does. The higher end earns its cost on storm days.

An insulated jacket is warm out of the box and simpler, good if you run cold. A shell has no insulation so you layer underneath to match the day, which suits Australia's temperature swing and breathes better for high-output riding. Many experienced riders here prefer shell-plus-layers.

Riding style drives it. A relaxed, baggier cut gives movement, layers easily and is more forgiving between sizes, the park and all-mountain default. A trimmer technical fit suits high-output and touring riders. Size over the mid-layer you actually ride in, and check the hood clears a helmet.

L1 is a strong default, rider-owned with a relaxed cut and good specs without the premium price. Yuki Threads is Australian designed so sizing suits us. Burton spans everyday resort pieces to the AK technical line. Airblaster suits riders who want more personality.

Not visually, and most riders do not bother. What matters is that the waterproof ratings are in the same ballpark and the pant can connect to the jacket's powder skirt for a sealed system. A 20K jacket over 10K pants leaves you wet from the waist down.
