What makes a women's jacket different from a men's?

A proper women's jacket is not a men's cut in a different colourway. The differences are structural: a shorter torso length, narrower shoulders, a different sleeve length relative to body length, and shaping through the waist and hips that lets the jacket sit properly rather than hanging square.

You notice it most when you are actually riding. A men's jacket on a shorter torso rides up when you reach, and the shoulders bind when you put your arms out. A women's cut moves with you instead of against you.

How should a women's snowboard jacket fit?

It should still cover your lower back when you are bent forward with your arms raised, because that is the position you are actually in when you ride. Try that in the shop rather than just standing straight in front of a mirror.

Fit it over the layers you will wear. A jacket that fits beautifully over a t-shirt in April will be tight over a mid-layer in August. The hood needs to go over a helmet, not just over your head.

What waterproof rating do you need in Australia?

Australian mountain snow is some of the wettest in the world: heavy, dense and soaking. A 10K jacket handles regular riding. If you are in the park sitting in the snow, or riding through rain, go 15K or higher.

Do women's sizes run true across brands?

No, and this is the single most common reason jackets get returned. Sizing varies meaningfully between brands, and between technical shells and lifestyle cuts within the same brand. A medium in one is not a medium in another.
