What length hardware do you need?

Hardware (the mounting bolts) comes in different lengths, and the right one depends on whether you run riser pads:

• 7/8 inch to 1 inch — standard for a setup with no risers, the most common choice for street and park.
• 1 to 1.25 inch — for a setup with thin riser pads.
• 1.25 inch and up — for thicker risers, common on cruisers and setups running bigger, softer wheels.

The rule: the bolt needs to pass through the deck, any riser, and the truck baseplate with enough thread for the nut, without sticking out so far it catches. If you are unsure, tell us your setup and we will sort the right length.

Do you need riser pads?

Riser pads sit between the truck and the deck to raise ride height and reduce wheel bite (where the wheel rubs the deck on a hard turn and stops you dead). You want them if you run larger or softer wheels, especially on cruisers, or if you get wheel bite on a standard street setup. Most standard street setups with 99a wheels around 52 to 54mm do not need them. Shock pads are a thinner version that cushion impact rather than add much height.

What else is in skateboard hardware?

Alongside the bolts and risers, this is where you find axle nuts, kingpin nuts, washers and speed rings — the small replaceable parts that wear out and are cheap to refresh. A worn axle nut or missing washer is a common cause of a wheel that will not spin freely, and replacing them is a couple of dollars.
