Frequently Asked Questions

No. They use different flex patterns, construction and sidecut geometry suited to women's riding styles, weight distribution and boot sizes. A men's board sized down still needs more weight to bend it, which is why it can feel stiff and unresponsive however short you go.

You can, but understand the trade. The flex pattern is tuned for a heavier rider, so unless you are at the heavier end you may find it stiff and hard to press or turn. Ride quality is worth more than a topsheet.

Softer helps while you are learning, but not the softest board available. Australian snow is wet and heavy, and an overly soft board loses energy and feels dead in slush. A forgiving mid-flex board usually serves better here.

They both matter, and weight is the one people skip. Two riders of the same height can need different boards. Boot size matters too, because it decides whether waist width will cause toe or heel drag.

Because most of it is written for dry North American or Japanese powder, which pushes riders toward softer boards than suit wet, heavy Australian snow. We ride Falls Creek, Mt Buller and Thredbo regularly and size against those conditions.

Stiffer, more directional shapes give the response and precision you want once you are riding harder. Jones and YES both make women's performance boards that do not compromise on ride quality.
