Longboard trucks are wider and use a reverse-kingpin design that makes them turn and carve completely differently to street skateboard trucks. The right trucks are the difference between a longboard that flows through turns and one that fights you. Frequently Asked Questions
Longboard trucks are wider and use a reverse-kingpin design that gives a deeper, more stable carving turn. Street skateboard trucks use a traditional kingpin that turns tighter and quicker but feels twitchy at longboard speeds. RKP trucks are what make a longboard carve properly.
Match truck width roughly to your deck width. Most longboard decks pair with 150 to 180mm trucks. Wider is more stable for downhill, narrower turns more sharply for carving and dancing. Match the deck and you will be close.
Bushings are the main lever: softer for easier carving, harder for stability at speed. On some trucks the baseplate angle also matters, with a higher angle turning more and a lower angle more stable. Swapping bushings is the cheap, easy tune.
