What makes longboard trucks different?

Longboard trucks are wider (usually 150 to 180mm) and almost always use a reverse-kingpin (RKP) design, where the kingpin faces outward away from the deck. This geometry gives a deeper, more stable turn that leans into carves naturally, which is exactly what you want for cruising, carving and downhill. Standard street trucks use a traditional kingpin that turns tighter and quicker but is far less stable at longboard speeds. If you put street trucks on a longboard it will feel twitchy and wrong; RKP trucks are what make a longboard carve.

What width longboard trucks do you need?

Match truck width roughly to your deck width for balanced turning and stability. Most longboard decks pair with 150 to 180mm trucks. Wider trucks are more stable at speed (good for downhill), narrower turn more sharply (good for tight carving and dancing). When in doubt, match the deck and you will be close.

How do you tune the turn?

Bushings are the main lever. Softer bushings turn more easily for carving and cruising; harder bushings add stability for speed and heavier riders. Baseplate angle also matters on some trucks: a higher angle (50 degrees) turns more, a lower angle (44 degrees) is more stable. Swapping bushings is the cheap, easy way to dial in exactly how your longboard leans and returns.
