What length deck bolts do you need?

Bolt length depends on whether you run riser pads:

• 7/8 inch to 1 inch — standard for a setup with no risers, the most common for street and park.
• 1 to 1.25 inch — for thin riser pads.
• 1.25 inch and up — for thicker risers, common on cruisers with bigger, softer wheels.

The bolt needs to pass through the deck, any riser and the truck baseplate with enough thread for the nut, without sticking out so far it catches. Too short and it will not hold; too long and it snags. If unsure, tell us your setup.

Phillips or Allen head?

Deck bolts come with either a Phillips (cross) head or an Allen (hex) head. Neither is better — it comes down to which driver you have on your skate tool. Most all-in-one skate tools include both, so either works. Allen heads are slightly less likely to strip over time.

Why keep spare deck bolts?

They loosen with skating and occasionally shake loose entirely, and a missing bolt puts uneven stress on the rest. A spare set costs a couple of dollars and means you are never sidelined by a lost bolt. It is also worth having one contrasting bolt at the nose, an old trick so you can tell nose from tail at a glance.
