What makes Gore-Tex different?

Is Gore-Tex worth the extra cost?

If you ride a lot, and especially if you ride wet days, yes. A Gore-Tex shell costs more upfront but delivers waterproofing that holds up over years and over the worst conditions, where a budget membrane leaves you damp by lunch. If you ride occasionally in fair weather, a good 15K-20K non-Gore jacket may be enough. The heavier your season, the more Gore-Tex justifies itself.

What are the different Gore-Tex types?

Worth knowing so you match it to your riding. Standard Gore-Tex is the reliable all-rounder. Gore-Tex Pro is the most durable and breathable, built for hard, high-output backcountry use.
