Landyachtz Butter Surfskate Spectrum | 31"
Smooth turns, powerful pumps, extra room up front.
The Butter is Landyachtz's all-round surfskate, here in the Spectrum graphic. Compared with the Pocket Knife it has a little more deck up front, which gives you a slightly more stable turn and more powerful pumps. It's made for slashing down alleyways, pumping around banks or just cruising, and it suits most teens and adults wanting a first surfskate.
The 31.2" deck is 7-ply Canadian maple with a slight taper to the nose and tail, mellow concave and a kicktail, finished with Landyachtz soft-top grip. It runs the Bear Banger 130 front truck with a Polar Bear rear, on 65mm Hawgs surfskate wheels with square lips and a glossy finish. The result is a surfskate that turns deep but stays composed, so it's easy to find your rhythm.

About Landyachtz
Landyachtz was started in 1997 by childhood friends Tom Edstrand and Mike Perreten while they were studying at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. Their first production run was pressed in a ski racing shed at Blackcomb, near Whistler. The company then moved to North Vancouver, first into a family garage and then into shared space with Invasion Snowboards, and it was there Landyachtz developed its own Bear Trucks and Hawgs Wheels. Tom Edstrand went on to win the IGSA longboarding world championship in 2005.
Today Landyachtz is still skater owned and operated, based in the Strathcona neighbourhood of Vancouver. It designs its decks, trucks and wheels to work together as one complete, from compact Dinghy cruisers and surfskates to dancing boards and downhill freeride decks. Through its One Board One Tree program, Landyachtz plants a tree for every board it sells. If you want a complete where every part was chosen for the deck it's bolted to, Landyachtz is a safe bet.
FAQs
What is the Landyachtz Butter best for?
All-round surfskating: pumping, carving and cruising. The extra room up front gives it a more stable, powerful turn than the smaller Pocket Knife, so it's great for banks, beach paths, car parks and getting a feel for surf-style riding.
Is a 31" surfskate the right size for me?
Yes for most teens and adults. At 31.2" long and 9" wide it's a mid-size surfskate with a comfortable stance and a nice balance of quick turning and stability. For tighter, snappier turns try the 29.6" Pocket Knife, or go to the 32.5" Groveler if you want more room.
Is the Butter good for beginners?
Yes, it's one of the easiest Landyachtz surfskates to start on. The extra nose room makes the turn feel more stable, the Polar Bear rear keeps it predictable and the soft-top grip is comfortable. Start on smooth, flat ground and you'll be pumping within a session or two.
What is a surfskate?
A surfskate is a skateboard with a front truck that turns much further than a normal truck, so you can pump for speed and carve tight, surf-style turns without pushing. Landyachtz surfskates use the Bear Banger: a high-angle reverse-kingpin front truck with its own geometry and extra-tall bushings for a huge amount of turn, paired with a traditional-kingpin Polar Bear rear truck that keeps the back end stable and predictable. There are no springs or swing arms, so it feels loose up front but still pushes and cruises like a normal board.
Can I commute on the Butter?
For short trips, yes. Once you can pump you'll cover flat ground with little pushing, and the soft 65mm wheels roll well over cracks and rough footpaths. For longer or faster commutes, a cruiser or longboard is more stable and efficient.
Does it come ready to ride?
Yes. It arrives fully assembled with griptape, trucks, wheels and bearings installed. Just check the truck tightness suits you and go ride.

Simply put, a surfskate is a skateboard for surfing the street. Surfskates use special trucks that enable riders to mimic the movements, feel, and flow of surfing. Surfskates were originally invented by surfers who wanted something to do on flat days. As time has passed, surf skating has proven to be one of the most enduring passions of skaters and surfers alike. Whether you love to skate or surf, surfskating is the closest experience you can get to gliding down and carving a wave.
