Independent Mid Trucks Silver | 144 (Pair)
Lower Indys with an inverted kingpin, made for technical street.
Independent Mid trucks sit lower than a Stage 11 and use Independent's own inverted kingpin design. The 144 has a 8.25" axle for decks around 8.2" to 8.375", and the lower hanger gives a better contact angle on your nose and tail for flip tricks, ledges and technical street skating.
The inverted Grade 8 kingpin sits flush under the hanger, so there's nothing to hang up on during grinds, and it adjusts with either a 9/16" socket or a 5.5mm Allen key. A steel shaft nut with a nylon locking insert in the baseplate stops the side-to-side play common on inverted kingpins. The hanger and baseplate are A356 T6 aluminium with an SCM435 chromoly axle and full-size 90a cushions, at a 52mm height that suits wheels 53mm and under.

What Size Board Does It Fit?
Match the truck's axle width to your deck width, ideally within about 1/4" either side. Too narrow feels twitchy and unstable; too wide and the wheels stick out past the deck and catch your feet. Here is Independent's official size chart for the Mid.
| Truck size | Axle width | Best board width |
|---|---|---|
| 129 | 7.6" | 7.4"–7.8" |
| 139 | 8.0" | 7.8"–8.2" |
| 144 | 8.25" | 8.2"–8.375" |
| 149 | 8.5" | 8.375"–8.6" |
| 159 | 8.75" | 8.6"–9.0" |
Mids come in 129 to 159. For decks wider than 9", look at the Stage 11 169.
About Independent
Independent Truck Company was founded in 1978 by Richard Novak and Jay Shuirman, the pair behind Santa Cruz Skateboards, together with Fausto Vitello and Eric Swenson, whose San Francisco company Ermico Enterprises manufactured the trucks. The first Indys came out that year, and the brand is still based in Santa Cruz, California.
Today Independent is the truck most skaters picture when they think of a skateboard truck. It is known for a stable, predictable turn, a hanger that grinds smooth and a lifetime guarantee under the motto Built to Grind. From the classic Stage 11 to the lower Mid and the featherweight Forged Titanium, there is an Indy for street, park, bowl and old-school shapes, and they all feel familiar the moment you step on.
FAQs
What size board do the Independent Mid 144 trucks fit?
Boards from about 8.2" to 8.375" wide. The 144 has a 8.25" axle; keep axle width within about a quarter inch of your deck width.
Mid vs standard Indys: what's the difference?
Height and kingpin. Mids stand 52mm tall versus 55mm for a Stage 11, and use an inverted kingpin that sits flush under the hanger. That means a lower, quicker flip feel and nothing to catch on grinds, while Stage 11s give more wheel clearance for bigger wheels and transition.
Do I need risers with Indy Mids?
Not if you run wheels 53mm and under, which is what Independent recommends. Mids are designed for smaller street wheels; if you want 54mm or bigger, a 1/8" riser or a Stage 11 is the better choice.
How do I adjust an inverted kingpin?
The same way as a normal one, just from underneath. Use a 9/16" socket on the kingpin nut or a 5.5mm Allen key in the kingpin head, and turn a quarter at a time until the turn feels right.
Do the Independent Mid 144 trucks come as a pair?
Yes. You get two trucks, enough to set up one skateboard, with kingpin nuts, axle nuts and bushings fitted. Mounting hardware (bolts) is not included, so grab a set of 7/8" or 1" bolts if you don't have them.

Why Buy from Twelve Board Store
Twelve Board Store has been riders selling to riders since 2013. We are not a generic retail chain — we are a specialist board sports retailer built around genuine product knowledge, real rider experience and the kind of after-sales support that only comes from a team that actually uses the gear they sell.
Every brand we stock, we ride. Every recommendation we make comes from real experience — on the mountain, in the park, on the street, and on the road. When you call us, you talk to someone who has been on a snowboard at Hotham last weekend or a skateboard in the carpark this morning. That is the difference between buying from Twelve and buying from a warehouse with a website.
We offer services that no online-only retailer can match. Our in-store workshop handles snowboard waxing and tuning, boot heat moulding, electric skateboard and e-bike repairs and assembly, and warranty support handled in-house rather than shipped offshore to a call centre. If something goes wrong with your gear, we fix it. If your boots don't fit, we sort it. If you ordered the wrong size, we swap it — no questions asked.
Our showroom at 435A Bridge Road Richmond stocks the full range across snowboards, bindings, boots, skateboards, longboards, electric skateboards, e-bikes, outerwear and accessories. We offer free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $89, AfterPay and Zip for flexible payment, and fast dispatch so your gear arrives when you need it.
Over a decade in business. More than 1,000 reviews. The most trusted specialist board store in Melbourne. If you need advice before you buy, call us on 03 9421 2293, visit us in-store, or contact us online — we'll get you sorted.
