Why is heat moulding free with every boot?

Because it changes how the boot performs for its entire life, and it is not a small thing. Heat moulding shapes the liner, the inner boot that wraps your foot, specifically to your foot anatomy. Pressure points are eliminated, heel hold improves dramatically, and the boot feels broken in from the first run rather than the fifth day.

Most boot problems riders describe, heel lift, toe bang, pressure on the ankle bones, numb toes, are solved or significantly reduced by proper moulding. The process takes 20 to 30 minutes, so bring thick snowboard socks. If you are buying online from us, come into the store before the season and we will do it free.

How should a snowboard boot fit?

Fit first, everything else second. The boot should feel snug all the way around your foot with your heel locked firmly into the heel cup. Your toes should just brush the front of the liner when you stand upright, and pull back slightly when you flex forward into a riding position.

No dead space around the heel, no pressure points on the ankle bones or the top of the foot. If it does not feel right standing in the store, it will not feel right on the mountain.

What flex rating do you need?

Boot flex runs from soft, 1 to 3, through medium, 4 to 6, to stiff, 7 to 10. Soft boots are more forgiving and comfortable, which suits park, freestyle and beginners. Medium is the all-mountain sweet spot, working across all terrain and most riding styles. Stiff boots give maximum power transfer and edge control at speed, for advanced freeride riders who want precision.

Match your boot flex broadly to your board flex and riding style, rather than to how long you have been riding.

Which lacing system should you choose?

Traditional laces give the most adjustable fit and last the longest. BOA dial systems give a fast, even tighten with one hand and are the most convenient on the hill. Speed-lace systems sit between the two.

All three work well, so choose based on whether you value tightening convenience or fine zone-by-zone adjustability.

Does the liner make a difference?

Heat-mouldable liners are standard across our range, which is why moulding matters so much. Higher-end boots have custom moulding systems or thicker liner foam that holds its shape better across multiple seasons.

If you ride hard and often, invest in a better liner. It affects how the boot performs across its whole life, not just the first season.

Which brand suits your foot?

What size should you buy?

Snowboard boots run close to true shoe size for most brands, but there are variations worth knowing. The liner compresses over time, so a boot that feels slightly snug in the store packs out to a comfortable fit after a few sessions, while one that feels comfortable in store will feel sloppy after pack-out. When in doubt, size down half a size.

Width matters too. If you have a wide foot and your toes press on the side of the liner, that is a width problem rather than a length one, so do not size up. Several brands offer wide-fit versions of their key models. Come in and we will match you to the right last width.
