What is Prizm and does it actually make a difference?

Prizm is Oakley's lens tinting technology, and the short answer is yes. Rather than darkening everything evenly the way a traditional tint does, Prizm filters specific wavelengths of light to lift the contrast between the shades your eye needs to separate on snow. The practical effect is that bumps, ice patches, wind lips and the edge of a shadow all become easier to read.

That matters more here than it does in a lot of places. Australian light swings hard between glare coming off man-made snow and complete whiteout flat light, sometimes inside the same run. A lens that still gives you definition when the cloud drops is the difference between riding confidently and feeling your way down.

Which Oakley goggle should you get?

• Flight Deck is the big spherical lens with the largest field of view in the range. Frameless through the peripheral, so there is very little sitting in your line of sight. The default pick if you want maximum vision.
• Line Miner is cylindrical and lower profile, with a deep vertical field of view. The more low-key look, and the one that suits riders who find the Flight Deck too big on their face.
• Flow Scape is a more recent shape sitting between the two, with a clean modern frame.
• Fall Line is the low-profile rimless design. Compact and neat without giving up much vision.

Most models come in more than one frame size, usually M and L. Frame size is about your face, not your preference. Too large and the goggle will not seal properly across the bridge of your nose, too small and it will press. If you are unsure, come into the Richmond store and try a few on.

What is Asia Fit and should you buy it?

Asia Fit goggles have a taller, wider nose bridge and slightly thicker face foam, built for a flatter facial profile and a lower nose bridge. It is not a regional badge on the same product. It is a genuinely different fit.

If standard goggles have ever left a gap under your eyes, sat too low on your cheeks, or fogged because air was leaking in at the nose, Asia Fit will very likely fix it. Plenty of our customers fit it better regardless of background, so it is worth trying rather than assuming standard is right for you.

How do you choose the right lens tint?

The number that matters is VLT, or visible light transmission, which is the percentage of light the lens lets through. A low VLT lens is dark and suits bright, high-glare days. A high VLT lens is pale and lets you pick out contour when the light goes flat and the cloud sits on the mountain.

The honest advice: one lens will not cover an Australian season well. Most riders are better off with a darker lens for bluebird days and a spare low-light lens for the days that turn. Oakley sells replacement lenses separately and swapping one takes under a minute, which is a far cheaper fix than owning two goggles.

Do Oakley helmets and goggles work together?

This is the main reason to buy them as a pair. Oakley's MOD helmet range is designed around goggle integration, with a brim built to sit flush against the top of the goggle frame instead of leaving the gap that catches wind and lets snow in. If you have ever ridden with a cold stripe across your forehead, that gap is why.

On fit, a helmet should sit level, cover your forehead without pushing your goggles down your face, and stay put when you shake your head with the strap undone. Check the individual product page for the specific impact and safety features on each model. If you are buying a helmet and goggle together, buy them together rather than separately, so the fit is confirmed rather than hoped for.
