In 1992, during a challenging period in skateboarding's history, Tony Hawk took a bold step by establishing a skateboard company. Originally called Birdhouse Projects, the company was founded on the belief that supporting and nurturing one's passion is crucial. Hawk assembled a highly dedicated skateboard team, emphasizing the enjoyment of skateboarding. Even after 32 years, Birdhouse continues to thrive, boasting one of the top teams in the sport, characterized by mutual respect, camaraderie, authenticity, and a genuine love for skateboarding.
Over the years, the team has featured some of skateboarding's most renowned figures. Initially led by Tony Hawk, the roster included Jeremy Klein, Steve Berra, and Willy Santos. Subsequently, Ocean Howell, Matt Beach, Paul Zitzer, Andrew Reynolds, Brian Sumner, Steve Nesser, Bucky Lasek, and Heath Kirchart made significant contributions, touring globally, gaining prominence in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video games, and producing memorable video segments in Birdhouse's The End and Feasters.
Presently, the Birdhouse team comprises respected and well-known figures in the sport, prominently featured on the covers of Thrasher, The Skateboard Mag, and TransWorld Skateboarding magazines. They continue to tour internationally, securing back-to-back victories in Thrasher's King of the Road, and accumulating substantial video views on platforms such as The Ride Channel, Thrasher, and The Berrics.
