What is ThirtyTwo known for?

ThirtyTwo started in 1995 with one goal: build a better snowboard boot. No skate heritage, no apparel line propping it up, just boots. Three decades on that focus still shows. How should a snowboard boot actually fit?

Tighter than you expect. A new boot should feel snug to the point of being slightly uncomfortable in the shop, because the liner packs out roughly half a size with use. Your toes should just brush the end when you stand upright and pull back off it when you flex into a riding stance.

What must not move is your heel. Lift there is what causes lost response, bruised toenails and burning calves. If the heel lifts, the boot is wrong no matter how good the rest of it feels. Buying a boot a size up for comfort is the most common and most expensive mistake in snowboarding.

What does heat moulding actually do?

The liner is heated and moulded to your foot as it cools, so it forms around your actual shape rather than a generic last. That removes pressure points, improves heel hold, and cuts the break-in period from a couple of weeks of riding down to almost nothing.

We heat-mould every pair free with any boot purchase. If you are buying online and cannot get to the shop, the liners will still mould to your feet through normal riding, it just takes longer and it is less precise.

BOA or traditional lacing?

BOA uses a dial and steel cable, so tightening is fast, even, and easy with cold or gloved hands. Traditional laces are slower, but they let you tune tension differently across the foot and they can be repaired anywhere for almost nothing.

Neither is better. BOA suits most people most of the time, especially if you adjust your boots through the day. Traditional laces suit riders with awkward foot shapes who need to control pressure zone by zone.
