How to Choose a Snowboard Helmet
Choosing a snowboard helmet is all about finding a brand that fits your head properly (and of course finding one that looks good). If possible we always suggest going into the shop to try on helmets but if you can't make it in there are some sure fire ways to get the right size at home.
First things first, the helmet should fit comfortably and sit on your head correctly for the best protection.
Measuring Your Helmet Size
You can find the correct size by measuring your head. You can do this with a clothing measuring tape and positioning it just above the ears and about 1" above your eyebrows. Measure around the largest part of your head (keeping the tape level) to determine the circumference of your head. Then look at the brands helmet size guide to find your perfect size.
A good helmet should feel snug but not tight. If the helmet can rock back and forth, the fit is too loose. Shake your head from side-to-side. If the helmet shifts, try a smaller size.
TIP: If you don't have a clothing measuring tape, you can also use a piece of string and measuring it.
Fit with Your Goggles
This is a very important step to finding a correct fitting helmet that most people overlook. To insure the correct helmet fit with your goggles, there should be no gap between the top of your goggles and the helmet. Make sure the helmet fits snugly to the top of the goggles, but not so low that it hinders vision or pushes down the goggles.
If you can head into the shop to try on helmet, we HIGHLY SUGGEST bringing your goggles in with you.
