Proportion, not just a smaller waist measurement. Women's-specific pants account for hip width relative to waist, a shorter inseam, and the way a women's riding stance sits. A men's pant cut down to a smaller waist still has the wrong hip-to-waist ratio and the wrong leg length.

You feel it when you crouch, reach or land: proper women's pants stay where they should instead of pulling at the hip or dragging at the hem.

How should women's snowboard pants fit?

They should sit comfortably at the hip with room to move, since you spend the day bending and crouching. Check the rise carefully. Too low and they gap at the back when you are strapped in and sitting down, which is exactly where snow gets in.

Try them on over the base layer you actually ride in, not over leggings you would never wear on the mountain. Check the hem length over your boots too, because a hem that sits too high lets snow up and one that sits too low wears through on your board edges.

What waterproof rating do you need?

Australian snow is wet, which is the starting point for this decision. 10K handles regular groomed runs and lift rides. If you are in the park sitting in the snow, or riding through rain, you want 15K or above.

Do women's sizes run true across brands?

No, and it is the most common reason pants get returned. Sizing varies meaningfully between brands, and between technical performance cuts and relaxed lifestyle cuts within the same brand. A medium in one is not a medium in another.
