Baggy Snowboard Pants

Baggy is a cut, not a size. Sizing up a regular-fit pant gives you a longer rise and a hem that drags through the slush. It does not give you the deliberate volume through the thigh and knee that a properly patterned baggy pant has. Buy your normal waist size in a pant that is cut baggy.

Why riders choose a baggy fit. Freedom of movement for buttering, pressing and park riding. Room to layer thermals underneath on cold mornings without the pant binding at the knee. And the silhouette itself, which has been central to snowboarding's visual identity since the 90s and is firmly back in the current cycle.

What to check before you buy. Waterproof rating first. 10,000mm is the practical minimum for Australian resorts and 15,000mm to 20,000mm is the sensible target. Australian snow is wet and heavy compared to Japan or Colorado, and a 5,000mm pant will wet out on a sitting-down day at Buller. Then look for fully taped or critically taped seams, boot gaiters that seal over your boot, thigh vents for spring laps, and a waist adjustment system that actually holds under a baggy cut.

Length over your boots. A baggy pant should break over the boot without pooling on the ground. Too long and the hem shreds on your edges and drags through slush. Too short and you expose the boot cuff to spray. If you are between lengths, measure the inseam of a pant you already own rather than guessing from the size label.

Consider a bib. Many of the baggy pants we carry are also available as bibs. A bib adds a higher back panel that keeps snow out on deep days and closes the gap that opens between jacket and pant when you reach.
