Frequently Asked Questions
The key specs differ because you are moving and generating significant body heat on the uphill, then stationary in wind and cold on ridgelines and transitions. A backcountry jacket needs ventilation for the ascent and protection for exposed terrain.
Yes. In the backcountry, pit zips are not a luxury, they are essential.
GORE-TEX and equivalent waterproof breathable membranes are the standard for serious backcountry use. A 20,000mm rated hardshell with fully taped seam construction handles Australian alpine weather, which is wet, variable and often windy, better than anything else available.
Helmet compatible hoods, powder skirts that seal against your splitboard binding waistband, and pockets in positions accessible under a pack harness. Resort focused outerwear often overlooks these.
We carry backcountry appropriate outerwear from Burton AK, Jones, Airblaster and Yuki Threads. Come in or call us to talk through what suits your intended terrain and touring style.
