Protec Classic Certified Helmet | Matte Black
The original Pro-Tec shape, certified for skate and bike.
The Classic Certified is the helmet most people picture when they think of a skate lid. It's Pro-Tec's original Classic shape in Matte Black, built for bowls, ramps, street and park, and certified for bike riding and scooters too. It suits skaters, BMX riders and anyone who wants one helmet that covers the lot.
A high-impact ABS shell sits over an EPS liner, with compression-moulded pads for a snug, comfortable fit. Eleven open vents keep air moving on hot sessions. It's a shell-sized helmet with no dial, so pick the right size from the chart and it sits low and stays put.

Size Guide
Wrap a soft tape around your head about 2cm above the eyebrows, over the widest point at the back. Pro-Tec recommends sizing up if you measure at the top end of a size range (for example, 54cm goes to the bigger size), and says riders usually find the larger size more comfortable.
| Size | Head circumference |
|---|---|
| XS | 52–54cm |
| S | 54–56cm |
| M | 56–58cm |
| L | 58–60cm |
| XL | 60–62cm |
The Classic Certified is a shell-sized helmet with no dial. The pads should feel snug all round without pressure points.
About Pro-Tec
Pro-Tec has been protecting skaters since 1973 and is one of the most recognisable helmet brands in skate and BMX. The Classic and Full Cut shapes have stayed in the range for years because riders keep asking for them. Pro-Tec's team list reads like a who's who of transition skating and BMX, from Steve Caballero and Steve Alba to Sakura Yosozumi and Australia's own Poppy Starr Olsen, with snowboard legend Todd Richards on the snow side.
Today Pro-Tec is known for that unmistakable skate shell, backed by modern certification: most of its skate helmets carry the US bicycle standard (CPSC 1203) alongside the skateboard standard (ASTM F1492), and its snow helmets are tested to EN 1077B and ASTM F2040. Signature editions with Santa Cruz, Spitfire, Steve Caballero and FIT Bike Co keep the culture front and centre. Riders choose Pro-Tec because it looks right, fits low and has been protecting skaters for over 50 years.
FAQs
Can I use the Pro-Tec Classic Certified for skateboarding and bike riding?
Yes. It's certified to CPSC 1203, AS/NZS 2063:2008, EN 1078, ASTM F1492 and ASTM F1447. CPSC 1203 is one of the bicycle standards accepted in Australia, so it's legal for bike and e-bike riding and scooters, and ASTM F1492 covers skateboarding and trick roller skating.
What size Pro-Tec Classic Certified should I get?
Measure around your head about 2cm above the eyebrows and match it to the chart: XS 52–54cm up to XL 60–62cm. If you're at the top of a range, Pro-Tec recommends going up a size. It should sit level and not rock forward or back when you shake your head.
When should I replace my helmet?
Replace it after any significant crash or hard hit, even if you can't see damage. The EPS liner crushes to absorb a big impact and doesn't bounce back, so it won't protect the same way twice. Also swap it out if the shell cracks, the foam is dented or the strap and buckle are worn. Pro-Tec doesn't publish a set age limit, so check it over regularly.
What's the difference between the Classic Certified and the Classic Skate?
The Classic Certified has an EPS impact liner and is certified to bike and skate standards. Pro-Tec's older Classic Skate used a soft foam liner and isn't certified to those standards. If you want to ride a bike or scooter, the Classic Certified is the one.

Why Buy from Twelve Board Store
Twelve Board Store has been riders selling to riders since 2013. We are not a generic retail chain — we are a specialist board sports retailer built around genuine product knowledge, real rider experience and the kind of after-sales support that only comes from a team that actually uses the gear they sell.
Every brand we stock, we ride. Every recommendation we make comes from real experience — on the mountain, in the park, on the street, and on the road. When you call us, you talk to someone who has been on a snowboard at Hotham last weekend or a skateboard in the carpark this morning. That is the difference between buying from Twelve and buying from a warehouse with a website.
We offer services that no online-only retailer can match. Our in-store workshop handles snowboard waxing and tuning, boot heat moulding, electric skateboard and e-bike repairs and assembly, and warranty support handled in-house rather than shipped offshore to a call centre. If something goes wrong with your gear, we fix it. If your boots don't fit, we sort it. If you ordered the wrong size, we swap it — no questions asked.
Our showroom at 435A Bridge Road Richmond stocks the full range across snowboards, bindings, boots, skateboards, longboards, electric skateboards, e-bikes, outerwear and accessories. We offer free shipping Australia-wide on orders over $89, AfterPay and Zip for flexible payment, and fast dispatch so your gear arrives when you need it.
Over a decade in business. More than 1,000 reviews. The most trusted specialist board store in Melbourne. If you need advice before you buy, call us on 03 9421 2293, visit us in-store, or contact us online — we'll get you sorted.
