Why clean your bearings?

Bearings pick up dust, grit and moisture every time you skate, and that debris creates drag that slows you down and wears the bearing out. Cleaning removes the grime and, followed by fresh lube, restores most of the speed and extends the life significantly. A set of quality bearings that is cleaned regularly lasts far longer than one left to grind itself out, which makes cleaner one of the cheapest ways to keep your setup fast.

How do you clean skateboard bearings?

Pop the bearings out of the wheels and pry off the shields, then soak them in bearing cleaner (or a citrus-based degreaser) to break down the old grime, agitate to shift the grit, and let them dry completely. Once dry, add a few drops of bearing lube, spin to distribute, refit the shields and reinstall. A cleaning kit makes this easy and repeatable. Never skate wet bearings or leave them to dry with cleaner still in them.
