Landyachtz Pocket Knife Surfskate Botanical | 29.5"
Pocket-sized surfskate with a botanical twist.
The Pocket Knife is the most compact surfskate in the Landyachtz range, here in the Botanical graphic. It's a classic surfboard-style shape with aggressive taper at both ends, made for snapping quick turns, pumping through narrow paths and changing direction almost instantly. It suits surfers training on land, skaters who want a looser, flowier board, and anyone who wants a surfskate that's easy to carry.
The deck is 7-ply Canadian maple with mellow concave and a kicktail, topped with Landyachtz soft-top griptape that has a layer of foam under the grip for a comfortable, forgiving feel. It's set up with the Bear Banger 130 surfskate truck up front and a Polar Bear rear, rolling on 65mm 78a Hawgs surfskate wheels with sharp lips and a glossy finish for plenty of grip. The front end turns hard when you pump, while the rear truck keeps it calm and predictable.

About Landyachtz
Landyachtz was started in 1997 by childhood friends Tom Edstrand and Mike Perreten while they were studying at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. Their first production run was pressed in a ski racing shed at Blackcomb, near Whistler. The company then moved to North Vancouver, first into a family garage and then into shared space with Invasion Snowboards, and it was there Landyachtz developed its own Bear Trucks and Hawgs Wheels. Tom Edstrand went on to win the IGSA longboarding world championship in 2005.
Today Landyachtz is still skater owned and operated, based in the Strathcona neighbourhood of Vancouver. It designs its decks, trucks and wheels to work together as one complete, from compact Dinghy cruisers and surfskates to dancing boards and downhill freeride decks. Through its One Board One Tree program, Landyachtz plants a tree for every board it sells. If you want a complete where every part was chosen for the deck it's bolted to, Landyachtz is a safe bet.
FAQs
What is the Landyachtz Pocket Knife best for?
Tight, snappy carving and pumping. It's the smallest Landyachtz surfskate, so it changes direction almost instantly and loves narrow paths, car parks and banks. It's also a great land-training tool for surfers working on short, quick turns.
Is a 29.5" surfskate the right size for me?
It's a compact surfskate that suits lighter riders, teens and anyone who wants the quickest, tightest turns. Taller riders or those with bigger feet usually feel more settled on the 31" Butter or 31.5" Surf Life, and the 32.5" Groveler gives the most room of all.
Is the Pocket Knife good for beginners?
Yes, with a short learning curve. The Banger front truck feels loose at first, but the Polar Bear rear keeps things predictable, and the soft-top grip is comfortable underfoot. Start on smooth, flat ground and most riders are pumping within a session or two.
What is a surfskate?
A surfskate is a skateboard with a front truck that turns much further than a normal truck, so you can pump for speed and carve tight, surf-style turns without pushing. Landyachtz surfskates use the Bear Banger: a high-angle reverse-kingpin front truck with its own geometry and extra-tall bushings for a huge amount of turn, paired with a traditional-kingpin Polar Bear rear truck that keeps the back end stable and predictable. There are no springs or swing arms, so it feels loose up front but still pushes and cruises like a normal board.
Can I commute on the Pocket Knife?
For short trips, yes. Once you can pump you'll cover flat ground with very little pushing, and the soft 65mm 78a wheels handle cracks and rough footpaths. The short wheelbase and loose front truck make it twitchy for long, fast commutes, so a cruiser or longboard is the better pick for that.
Does it come ready to ride?
Yes. It arrives fully assembled with griptape, trucks, wheels and bearings installed. Just check the truck tightness suits you and go ride.

Simply put, a surfskate is a skateboard for surfing the street. Surfskates use special trucks that enable riders to mimic the movements, feel, and flow of surfing. Surfskates were originally invented by surfers who wanted something to do on flat days. As time has passed, surf skating has proven to be one of the most enduring passions of skaters and surfers alike. Whether you love to skate or surf, surfskating is the closest experience you can get to gliding down and carving a wave.
