Will your bindings fit your board?

Compatibility comes first, before flex or brand or anything else. Bindings mount via a disc system, and most use a 4x4 or 2x4 hole pattern compatible with most boards.

Burton boards use The Channel, a single rail system that needs either Burton Re:Flex bindings with a compatibility disc, or native Channel-mount bindings. If you are running a Burton board, check this before you buy. We will confirm compatibility for any setup.

What flex should your bindings be?

Binding flex should broadly match your boot flex and your board flex. Mismatching a stiff binding with a soft board, or the reverse, reduces performance at both ends.

• Soft, 1 to 4 — forgiving and responsive to subtle movement. Park, freestyle and beginner riders.
• Medium, 5 to 6 — the all-mountain standard, versatile across terrain and conditions.
• Stiff, 7 to 10 — direct power transfer and maximum response for advanced freeride and carving.

How do highback angle and forward lean work?

The highback is the spine behind your heel, and it controls response when you pressure your heels. More forward lean gives sharper heel-side response and suits freeride riding. Less is more relaxed and suits freestyle and park.

Most bindings let you adjust this, and most riders never touch it. We set up every binding we sell to your stance and riding style, so bring your boots when you come in.

Does baseplate stiffness matter?

The baseplate is what your boot sits on. A stiffer baseplate transmits power more directly. A softer one absorbs more vibration. Freeride riders generally prefer stiffer, park and freestyle riders softer and more playful.

It is a smaller decision than flex or compatibility, but it is the difference between a binding that feels lively and one that feels dead underfoot.

Straps or Step On?

Standard toe and ankle strap setups are the most common and the most adjustable. Burton Step On is a clip-in system with three connection points, no straps, click in and ride. Fast, secure, and a favourite for riders who hate strapping in on cold mornings.

It does require specific Step On boots, so you are buying into a system. Come in and try it properly before deciding rather than taking anyone's word for it, ours included.

Bindings are the easiest part of a setup to get subtly wrong, because a binding that is merely acceptable still works. You just never find out what the board could have done.

What we do when you buy bindings from us

We set up every binding we sell. Stance width, binding angle, highback angle, forward lean and strap placement, all adjusted to your riding style and body before you leave. It takes 15 to 20 minutes and it is free with every purchase. Do not leave it until you are in the car park at the mountain.

If you bought bindings elsewhere and want them set up correctly, come in and we will do it anyway. Having your stance angles dialled makes a measurable difference to how the setup rides.
