Frequently Asked Questions

EN15194 is the EPAC standard that Australian states recognise for legal electric bike use on public roads, shared paths and bike lanes. A certified bike runs a 250W continuous-rated motor, is pedal-assist only, and cuts assistance at 25km/h. Meeting that standard means the bike is treated the same as a regular bicycle under road rules.

No. Because the bike is legally classified as a bicycle, no licence, registration or insurance is required. You ride it exactly as you would a normal bike.

Anywhere a bicycle is permitted. In Melbourne that includes the Capital City Trail, the Bay Trail, the Yarra Trail, bike lanes and public roads. There are no additional restrictions beyond normal bicycle road rules.

Yes, for real Melbourne commuting it is. On flat ground the assist plus a fit rider cruises comfortably within that window. Where it makes the biggest difference is hills, where it is the difference between arriving at work sweating and arriving fresh. The limit applies to motor assistance, not your own pedalling, so you can exceed it under your own effort.

These are 250W pedal-assist with no throttle, capped at 25km/h assisted, and legally bicycles. Our higher-powered models run 500W to 1000W with throttles, which puts them outside bicycle classification and makes them private-land and off-road machines. Both are good bikes, they just do different jobs. If you want to ride bike paths legally, this is the collection.

The 250W pedal-assist framework is recognised nationally, but specific rules and enforcement vary by state and territory and do change over time. If you are outside Victoria, tell us where you ride and we will help you confirm what applies before you buy.
