The Madness Rise Above is the biggest deck in the range and the one built for riders who want a proper platform underneath them. At 8.75" wide and 32.5" long it's a shaped deck rather than a straight popsicle — a rounded nose and tail with a fuller, slightly tapered outline that gives you real standing room without feeling like a cruiser. It's aimed squarely at transition, bowls, pools and bigger street terrain, and it's a solid pick for taller riders or anyone in a size 11+ shoe who's tired of hanging off the edges.

The graphic is a classical oil painting — a nocturnal scene of robed figures suspended mid-air over a fleeing man, in the style of Goya's late "black paintings." It's an unusual choice for a skate deck and it works: dark, unsettling, and printed with embossed detail worked into the surface rather than flat on top.

Construction is Madness R7 — Resin 7. Seven plies of 100% North American maple bonded with epoxy resin glue instead of standard wood glue, then individually pressed rather than stacked in a multi-board press. Epoxy makes for a stiffer, stronger bond that resists delamination and holds its snap longer, and individual pressing means the concave comes out consistent board to board. Madness rate it as stronger than an industry-standard 7-ply with a longer usable life — and on a bigger deck like this, where there's more leverage on the wood, that construction matters more, not less.

Two details set the Rise Above apart from the rest of the line. It runs a dual wheelbase — two sets of truck holes at 14.5" and 15.0" — so you can set it up tighter and more responsive, or longer and more stable, without buying a different board. What width is right for me?

As a general guide: 7.5"–7.875" suits smaller riders or those focused on technical street skating. 8.0"–8.25" is the most popular all-round street and park size. 8.25"–8.5" suits riders who prefer a slightly bigger platform for stability. 8.5" and above works well for transition, bowls, and larger riders. Q: What's a dual wheelbase and which setting should I use?
A: There are two sets of truck mounting holes at each end, so you can mount your trucks closer together (14.5") or further apart (15.0"). The shorter setting turns quicker and makes flip tricks easier; the longer setting is more stable at speed and in bigger transition. It's not a permanent decision — try one, and if it doesn't feel right, unbolt and move them. A: You'll want 159mm Independent trucks or equivalent to match the width properly — 149mm will look and feel narrow under this deck.
