Burton Men's Custom X Snowboard | Etched | 2027
Pro-Calibre. No Compromises. Full Send.
The Burton Custom X is Burton's hardest charging board — the weapon of choice for the world's best riders when they need a board that can handle anything from steep backcountry lines to Olympic-level competition. Pro-calibre is a bold claim for any snowboard, but the Custom X earns it every year through a combination of technology and engineering that simply doesn't exist at this intensity anywhere else in Burton's lineup. The Etched colourway brings bold 3D graphic work to the base — etched in time like the board's legendary performance, channelling power and precision with depth that reveals itself differently every time you look down. This is the board for riders who have exhausted everything below it and are ready for what the Custom X demands in return.
The camber profile is full camber tip to tail — the most responsive, highest-energy profile available, with weight distributed evenly across the entire board for continuous edge control and snappy, spring-loaded pop that doesn't wash out under pressure. The directional shape gives the Custom X more nose than tail to concentrate pop in the tail and provide float, flow, and control in any terrain, while the twin flex means the board performs identically regular or switch with no penalties in either direction. Frostbite Edges extend beyond the binding contact zone for substantially improved edge hold in hard, icy, and groomed conditions — the kind of surface Buller, Falls Creek, and Hotham serve up for most of the season. Squeezebox core profiling balances thicker, more powerful sections underfoot with thinner, more flexible sections toward the tips, transferring rider energy outward to energise the tip and tail for a board that feels simultaneously snappy and stable.
The Dragonfly 600G core is Burton's strongest and lightest core construction — end-grain woods with Multizone EGD positioning wood grain in multiple zones and orientations for superior strength-to-weight ratio and edge control across the entire board. This is a meaningfully different and lighter core than the Super Fly II 700G in the regular Custom and the Family Tree range. The 45° Carbon Highlights High Voltage fiberglass is the stiffer, poppier version of the standard Carbon Highlights laminate — a full tip-to-tail carbon layer optimised for a more aggressive, energy-loaded ride. The Sintered WFO base infuses deeply formulated wax into the pores of the extra-absorbent, high-density material for a base that stays fast and durable across the entire season. Super Sap Epoxy cuts the resin carbon footprint by 50%. Infinite Ride ensures the flex and pop you ride on day one is the same feel you'll have at the end of the season. 3-year warranty.
Why Ride the Burton Custom X?
✅ Full Camber Profile – Maximum energy storage, snappy spring-loaded pop, and precise continuous edge control from tip to tail; the highest-performance profile in Burton's lineup
✅ Frostbite Edges – Extended edge contact beyond the binding inserts for dramatically improved grip on hard, icy, groomed snow — exactly what Australian and alpine resort conditions demand
✅ Dragonfly 600G Core — Burton's Lightest, Strongest Core – End-grain wood construction with Multizone EGD in multiple zones for the best strength-to-weight ratio in any Burton snowboard
✅ Multizone EGD – End-grain wood positioned in multiple zones perpendicular to the core for superior edge hold, response, and strength throughout the board
✅ 45° Carbon Highlights High Voltage – The stiffer, poppier version of Burton's Carbon Highlights laminate; a full tip-to-tail carbon layer that loads the board with explosive energy and torsional precision
✅ Squeezebox Core Profiling – Thicker, more powerful sections underfoot balanced with thinner, more flexible sections toward the tips; rider energy transfers outward for an energised, snappy tip and tail
✅ Directional Shape — Twin Flex – Slightly longer nose than tail for float, pop, and all-terrain control; twin flex delivers identical performance and energy regular or switch
✅ Pro-Tip — Tapered Tip and Tail Thickness – Reduces swing weight at both ends for faster turn initiation and better mobility, even at the board's aggressive flex level
✅ Sintered WFO Base – Burton's most wax-absorbent, high-density sintered material, deeply infused with specially formulated wax for a base that stays fast all season in any condition
✅ Infinite Ride – Burton overbuilds the board then machine breaks it in before it ships; the flex, pop, and feel on day one is the feel you'll still have at the end of the season
✅ Super Sap Epoxy – Bio-based resin that reduces the carbon footprint by 50% compared to conventional petroleum epoxy
✅ The Channel Mounting System – Compatible with all major bindings; ultimate stance adjustability for dialling in a pro-level setup exactly the way you want it
✅ 3-Year Warranty — Backed by Burton from date of purchase

Frequently Asked Questions
Custom X vs Custom Camber — what's the difference and which should I choose?
Both boards share the same directional shape, full camber profile, and twin flex, but the Custom X is significantly more aggressive in every dimension. The regular Custom uses a Super Fly II 700G wood core, standard Dualzone EGD, and standard 45° Carbon Highlights. The Custom X steps up to the Dragonfly 600G core — Burton's lightest and strongest — with Multizone EGD for a higher-precision edge-to-edge feel, and the High Voltage version of the Carbon Highlights fiberglass for a stiffer, poppier, more explosive ride. The Custom X also adds Frostbite Edges for superior hard-snow edge hold. In practice: the regular Custom is a versatile, fun, responsive all-mountain board that suits a wide range of advanced riders. The Custom X is a demanding, high-performance tool that rewards precision and riding ability — if you can't drive it correctly it will feel stiff and unforgiving; if you can, it's one of the best boards ever made. Come into the store or call 03 9421 2293 and we'll be honest about which one suits where you're at.
Regular or wide — how do I know which to choose?
For the Custom X, boot size US 10 and under will typically ride the regular width comfortably. US 10.5 is the grey zone — check your binding setup and stance width to be sure. US 11 and above, the 158W, 162W, or 166W is strongly recommended. The wide sizes add 8mm of waist width over the regular equivalents at the same length. Come into the store at 435A Bridge Rd Richmond or call 03 9421 2293 and we can talk through your specific boot and binding combination.
How does the Custom X ride in Australia — and overseas?
The Custom X is built for exactly the conditions Australian resorts throw at riders most of the time — firm, groomed, icy, tracked-out. The full camber and Frostbite Edges make this one of the best-performing hard-snow boards available; it locks into an edge and doesn't let go, even when Buller or Falls Creek serves up those scraped-out groomer sections mid-afternoon. The stiff flex blasts through chop and crud at Hotham without bucking, and the high-energy core delivers pop off every natural hit you point it at. On a powder day at Perisher or Falls Creek, the directional shape and twin flex handle softer snow well enough — this isn't a dedicated powder board, but it rides far better in soft snow than its stiffness suggests. Take it to Japan and the High Voltage carbon and Frostbite Edges make it a precision carving machine in Niseko's consistently groomed surface snow between dumps. In Canada — whether you're railing Whistler's world-class groomers or charging Revelstoke's steeps — the Custom X delivers the high-speed stability and edge hold to match bigger, more consequential terrain.
What ability level is this board for — and what does it actually demand from the rider?
The Custom X is rated advanced to expert, and that rating is honest. The stiff flex (6–9/10) and full camber profile will feel catchy and demanding for riders who still skid their turns or don't commit fully through heel and toe edges. This board rewards technically precise riding — if you drive it with intention, it responds with explosive pop, pinpoint edge control, and a ride feel that most boards can't touch. If you're riding confidently across all terrain, carving with commitment, and pushing your limits, the Custom X will take your riding further. If you're not there yet, the regular Custom or Custom Flying V are better starting points. Honest advice: come into the store and talk to us — we won't put you on a board that'll hold you back or put you on your face.
