Best Fat Tyre Electric Bikes Australia 2026 — Our Picks

Fat tyre e-bikes are the most practical electric vehicle most people will actually use. Wide tyres that handle sealed paths, gravel, sand and grass equally well. Motor assist that makes hills disappear. Range that covers real distances. And in Melbourne, access to some of the best riding terrain in the country — bay trails, river paths, beach access tracks, suburban back streets.

We stock, demo and service fat tyre e-bikes at our Richmond store. Frosty handles all the workshop work in-house. These are the bikes we recommend in 2026 and why.

Best All-Round Fat Tyre E-Bike — Fatboy Bagus V2

The Fatboy Bagus V2 is the bike we point most people toward when they ask for an honest recommendation. Australian-designed, Bafang high-torque motor, Samsung battery system, real-world range that matches the spec sheet more closely than most bikes in the category. The V2 improvements over the original are meaningful — better battery management, improved braking, tighter build quality.

We have been selling Fatboy since the early days of the category. They understand Australian conditions because they are an Australian company. The Bagus suits the Capital City Trail, the Bay Trail and the mixed terrain between them without feeling compromised on any surface.

Best for: commuters who want a reliable daily rider, recreational riders who want to cover ground on Melbourne's bike path network, anyone wanting a road-legal EN15194 certified bike they can ride legally on shared paths.

Best Lifestyle E-Bike — Super73 S-Series

Super73 is a different proposition to Fatboy. The styling is motorcycle-inspired — long and low, chunky tyres, wide bars — and it turns heads everywhere it goes. The S-Series has a larger battery and longer wheelbase than the compact Z models, which makes it more comfortable for taller riders and better for longer distance riding.

Super73 has a genuine community behind it. Rides, meetups, a strong social presence. If the social side of owning a bike matters to you, Super73 delivers that in a way that a more utilitarian brand does not.

The S-Series is available in EN15194 compliant and unrestricted configurations depending on the model. Check what you are buying and where you plan to ride.

Best for: riders who want something that stands out, lifestyle and weekend riders, anyone who wants to be part of a brand community, coastal and urban mixed terrain riding.

Best Performance Build — FlightRisk

FlightRisk is the high-output option in our range. More motor, more battery, higher top speed in unrestricted mode. Built for riders who want maximum capability rather than path compliance. Bold styling, serious build quality, the kind of bike that gets asked about at traffic lights.

FlightRisk is an off-road unrestricted bike. Not configured for legal use on Victorian public roads or shared paths. If you have the land or the access for it — property, trails, private tracks — it delivers a riding experience that road-legal bikes cannot touch.

Demo bikes available in store. Come and ride one before you decide.

Best for: riders with private property or off-road access, experienced riders who want the top end of the category, anyone who prioritises performance over road compliance.

Best Compact Option — Super73 Z-Series

The Z-Series is Super73's compact model — shorter wheelbase, lighter weight, easier to store and transport. The trade-off is range and comfort over longer distances compared to the S-Series. For Melbourne inner-suburb riding, short commutes and anyone who needs to get the bike into a lift or a tight storage space, the Z-Series makes more sense than the full-size S.

Best for: inner-city riders, apartment dwellers with limited storage, shorter riders, anyone who wants the Super73 look in a more manageable package.

What About Ampd Brothers?

Ampd Brothers sit in the off-road unrestricted category with high motor output and a strong performance focus. Worth a serious look if you want maximum torque and are not concerned about road compliance. Come in and we can walk you through the range.

Before You Buy

The most important question before buying any e-bike: where are you going to ride it? Road-legal EN15194 certified bikes on Melbourne's shared path network. Off-road unrestricted bikes on private property and closed trails. Getting this wrong is not a minor detail — it affects where you can legally ride and what happens if something goes wrong.

We stock both categories and will tell you straight which one makes sense for how you ride. No upselling to the more expensive option if the cheaper one does the job.

All bikes are assembled and safety-checked before delivery. Demo bikes for every model we stock are available at our Richmond showroom. Frosty's workshop handles all servicing, repairs and warranty work in-house.
